The University of Washington School of Law is seeking a full time Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications.

The Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications, under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, is responsible for planning, managing, and implementing projects that enhance the UW and UW Law brand reputation and awareness. This includes producing content for the School of Law website, podcast, intranet, e-newsletters, social media outlets and other electronic communications to reach key school stakeholders and the legal community.

The ideal candidate will recognize the importance of powerful storytelling and have a passion for producing quality content across our digital communication channels.

The ideal candidate should be flexible, quick-thinking, energetic, efficient, and able to work independently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must, as this position requires interacting with other staff and faculty throughout the school, as well as students, alumni and friends of the school.

Candidates should have demonstrated success in packaging stories, photos, audio, and video from multiple sources. Candidates should enjoy innovating and be comfortable blending exclusive, original, and aggregated material and user-generated content to create a compelling site that engages users and encourages repeat visits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Creation and Production-

• Write and edit content in support of organizational strategic initiatives, including feature stories, news items, faculty scholarship summaries, magazine-style pieces, obituaries, etc.
• In collaboration with our Creative Content Producer, host about 15 episodes of the Discovery podcast annually. This includes connecting the guests, researching their speaking topic, developing interview questions, conducting an on-air, live to tape interview, preparing the interview transcript and writing podcast descriptions.
• In collaboration with our Creative Content Producer, produce video projects that advance the UW and UW Law brand. This work includes developing project briefs, identifying subject matter experts or participants, conducting interviews, script writing, facilitating the approval process, preparing transcripts, and writing video descriptions.
• Produce the school’s monthly e-newsletter celebrating UW Law’s impact and approximately four to five topic- or program-specific e-newsletters each quarter. Production includes developing content plans, writing and editing content, designing the e-newsletter using the university’s email marketing automation tool
• Produce email marketing campaigns for the purpose of student recruitment, philanthropy, mentor cultivation and more.

Content Strategy and Editorial Management-

• Develop and implement content plans, consulting with MarCom colleagues and stakeholders that meet the needs of academic programs, clinics, and centers.
• Use metrics and strategic initiatives to inform decisions about content development and promotion
• Plan and manage development of special projects to support advertising and marketing efforts as well as special events and campaign/fundraising

Related Departmental Duties-

• Attend department meetings and functions
• Execute reports and analyses on a regular basis to inform strategy
• Support the annual marketing and communications strategic planning process in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Communications

Additional Duties as Assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Business, or related field and 4-5 years’ experience in web content, program coordination, and/or marketing.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrated passion for creating a world-class brand experience and have a desire to develop creative ideas, concepts, and new ways of doing things
• Strong interest in digital story-telling and communications
• Strong organizational skills, initiative, creativity and resourcefulness
• Strong project management skills
• Demonstrated communications skills, including online editing and writing skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a diverse environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds
• Ability to perform as an effective team member while handling independent projects and responsibilities with minimal supervision
• Proficiency in Associated Press (AP) Style

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

• Experience with and ability to use content management tools
• Experience working in higher education or for a mission-driven organization a plus but not required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Cubical/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
• Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
