General Notes

Primary work location is in the heart of the UT campus in the iconic Gregory Gym. Frequently work additional hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Occasional holiday work. Occasional interstate and intrastate travel. Continuously adhere to the department's Vision, Mission and Values, Communication Credo and Performance Standards. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. Position is exempt Administrative & Professional (A&P), and subject to annual renewal.

Purpose

Assist in directing and managing the Intramural Sports Program through day-to-day and on-site coordination of its activities, services, systems, policies and procedures, personnel, and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the daily operations of the Intramural Program to include programming and calendar development, tournaments and special event scheduling, development of policies, rules, regulations, registration management, and publicity and promotion of events.

  • Manage part-time and student personnel to include recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating employees and officials; plan and conduct meetings and trainings for officials, assistants, and supervisors.  Coordinate and monitor payroll.  Monitor all aspects of UT Officials Association.

  • Provide on-site coordination and evaluation of activities; advise, address, and resolve issues, problems, or conflicts; interact with program participants and personnel to ensure positive experiences and development opportunities.

  • In coordination with Sr. Assistant Director of Intramural Sports and Program Director, steward fiscal operations and the associated resources for the program.  Prepare and monitor various budgets, maintain accounts, oversee purchasing, procure equipment and supplies, coordinate contracts and ensure compliance, monitor fees, charges, and refunds, and make budget related program recommendations.

  • Actively pursue outreach opportunities within the university community to promote activities and events.  Serve as liaison to campus departments for collaborative opportunities where appropriate. Identify new opportunities to engage varied interests of the campus population.

  • Attend conferences, events, and activities to maintain current knowledge relative to collegiate recreation, higher education, and sports officiating.

  • Provide assistance and backup support to other Program areas.

  • Serve as a contributing member of staff; attend and participate in meetings, serve on committees, and perform other duties as assigned; utilize strategic planning and thinking, independent judgement, critical analysis, creativity, innovation, and initiative in all areas of responsibility.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and experience in a college-level recreational sports program. Experience in Intramurals administration, event coordination, personnel administration and/or managing recreation programs. A successful candidate possesses exceptional interpersonal, mentoring, leadership, motivational, accountability, time management and multi-tasking skills. Ability to think critically and strategically. Excellent written and verbal communication, public relations, organizational and planning skills. Technical proficiency.


Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, Student Personnel Administration or closely related field. A two-year graduate assistantship in campus recreation that included a broad overview of an Intramural Program. Experience in a university level recreational sports program similar in size and scope of UT Austin. Involvement with NIRSA.


Salary Range

$59,800 + depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

Typical office environment. Exposure to dust, alarms, large crowds, and noise (including construction noises). May work around chemical fumes when gym floors are being refinished. Outside work required; exposure to all weather conditions. Work under stress, under deadlines, as a team member, independently, with interruptions and with overlapping projects.


Work Shift

Department may allow work from home one day/week (except during peak times).
