The Assistant Director for Counseling Services will support the Director of Student Counseling Services in the administration, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical services and outreach to the student population as well as related policies and procedures in coordination with campus partners including the Dean of Students Office, Residence Life, University Police, Athletics, academic departments, etc. The AD will provide direct supervision and leadership to clinical interns, graduate assistants, and clinical staff. Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate. Occasional evenings/weekends required. Occasional travel required.

Responsibilities:
40% Administrative/Supervisory:

Provides clinical supervision for graduate interns and/or provisionally-licensed staff in accordance with ethical guidelines and licensing regulations. Maintains current licensure, appropriate paperwork, availability for required individual supervision, and accurate and timely supervision records in accordance with LPC board requirements. Provides developmental and remedial support to supervisees when needed; addresses clinical concerns swiftly and directly. Provides opportunities for professional development and continuing education for staff in accordance with licensing requirements. Provides consultation to clinical interns and FT staff for cases of concern including high-risk students, students in need of evaluation and psychiatric services, difficult behaviors, etc.

30% Wellness Outreach: Actively supports Counseling Services’ strength-based mission of promoting resilience, connection, hope, and healing across our community. Develops and oversees holistic wellness efforts including collaboration with key partners across campus. Supervises and trains interns and staff in the delivery of outreach efforts including but not limited to wellness outreach, skills training with select student groups, infusion of wellness content into existing groups and classes, etc. Prepares internal and external documentation and reports, including contributing to reports required for compliance with state and federal laws. Conducts assessment activities to acquire relevant data to improve services.

20% Direct Client Contact: Renders individual and group counseling to students struggling with developmental or personal issues. Groups may include process, psychoeducation, and/or drop-in workshop-style groups. Provides case management of clientele through regular maintenance of case notes and record-keeping. Participates in after-hours crises rotation to manage calls from the 24/7 call line or needs on campus.

10% Liaison/Resource/Other: Serves as a liaison and resource to students, campus departments, and community agencies. Performs other duties as assigned with final authority/approval at the discretion of the Director of Student Counseling.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in health education, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Fully licensed in Texas as an LPC

  • Six years of related experience

  • Experience supervising and/or mentoring graduate interns and/or provisionally licensed counselors.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

Preferred Experience:

  • LPC-Supervisor designation

  • Training and experience using solution-focused brief approaches and/or cognitive-behavioral approaches.

  • Five years of counseling experience

  • Three years of experience in higher education

  • Training in and familiarity with dialectical behavior therapy

  • Strong public speaking experience

  • Experience running counseling groups

  • Experience with Titanium software
