Overview:


Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director for Compliance. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. The mission of NIU Athletics is to enhance the University, community and region through service and engagement while developing champions in the classroom, in competition and in life.
With long standing traditions and core values centered on family, NIU Athletics is home to 17 NCAA Division I sport programs. NIU, chartered in 1895, is a comprehensive teaching and research institution with over 17,000 currently enrolled students and houses seven (7) degree-granting colleges—Business, Education, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Health and Human Sciences, Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts. Centrally located in DeKalb, Northern Illinois University is 30 miles west of Aurora, 65 miles west of Chicago, 36 miles west of Naperville, and 45 miles southeast of Rockford.

Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director for Compliance, the Assistant Director establishes and maintains a program which will ensure compliance with NCAA, conferences of which NIU is a member, and University rules and ensure proper transmission of those rules to coaches, staff members, student-athletes, and representatives of NIU athletics interests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with monitoring athletic scholarship limitations, National Letters of Intent, offers of athletically related financial aid, and the book loan program.
  • Manages the Huskie Intern and degree completion programs.
  • Monitors institutional and outside scholarships.
  • Manages the squad list process.
  • Manages the monitoring and approval of all individual and team awards and benefits.
  • Manages complimentary tickets process for student-athlete guests.
  • Tracks compliance with required career counseling and life skills programs.
  • Manages requests for student-athlete community service and promotional activities, requests for athletic memorabilia, and student-athlete employment.
  • Serves as Compliance Office liaison for Housing and Residential Services, communicating on issues related to student-athletes.
  • Assists with monitoring athletically related activities via ARMS and random spot checks throughout the year.
  • Monitors student-athlete participation in outside competition.
  • Assists with the monitoring of recruiting contacts and evaluations, official and unofficial visits, complimentary admissions, and other recruiting activities.
  • Communicates relevant recruiting rules with coaches for all athletic programs.
  • Manages the approval process for institutional camps and clinics, as well as coaches' participation with outside camps and clinics and local sports clubs.
  • Monitors on-campus evaluations for applicable sports.
  • Assists with tracking student-athlete participation and seasons of competition used, medical hardships, and required student-athlete forms.
  • Reviews and approves student try-outs and assist with approval of male practice players.
  • Assists with educational efforts for coaches, athletics staff, and student-athletes, including monthly presentation to coaches, bi-annual presentations to student-athletes, and yearly presentations to staff.
  • Responds to requests from coaches, athletics staff, and student-athletes on rules interpretations.
  • Participates in the annual audit of the Compliance Office.
  • Monitors outside income reporting, coaches' safety certifications (CPR/AED), student managers, Graduate Assistant coaches in applicable sports, and Individuals Associated with Prospects (IAWP).

Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service):

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One (1) year (12 months) of work experience with NCAA compliance (may include graduate assistantships or internships).

  • Note: A Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.

    Salary: $35,568.00 - $45,000.00/annually
