The University of Washington College of Arts and Sciences provides a liberal arts education of tremendous breadth and depth to more than 22,000 students while advancing research and serving as a resource for the community. The College is made up of four academic divisions: arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.

The Divisions of Arts and Humanities seek knowledge and meaning through artistic and human experience. This includes the study of visual and performing arts and the study of language, literature and culture through diverse perspectives.

The Assistant Director of Advancement for Arts & Humanities will participate in advancement efforts that align with the College of Arts & Sciences’ goals to engage, maintain and promote lifelong relationships with the University of Washington. The position will develop and promote engagement opportunities for alumni, donors and the community throughout the Arts and Humanities divisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Development and Management

• Creates and implements meaningful donor experiences that highlight the impact of giving to deepen donor engagement with the university.
• Develops, implements and ensures appropriate recognition and engagement of donors, volunteers and staff through a leadership approved stewardship strategic plan.
• Serves as a critical partner to fundraisers in the design, recording and implementation of personalized stewardship plans for high level donors.
• Consults, implements and advises on the design, collection and management of stewardship related data to ensure fulfillment of stewardship obligations; document and track stewardship actions.
• Advises on a range of topics, including personal giving, recognition programs and best practices.
• Consults and advises unit staff in the identification, development and implementation of programs and events to acknowledge, recognize and report impact to friends of the university.
• Consults and advises partners to coordinate the identification and capitalization of new stewardship and cultivation opportunities to demonstrate the impact of philanthropy through online and physical collateral.
• Creates and develops reports, project analysis, graphics, spreadsheets, and other customized materials.
• Identifies and cultivates new prospective donors, develops relationships and moves through the donor continuum to gift conversion.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in development or fundraising or related field.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work collegially and effectively with internal and external partners and constituencies.
• Demonstrated strong computer skills, including relational databases and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.

DESIRED:

• Professional development experience in higher education.
• Previous individual, corporate, and foundation discovery experience.
• Experience working with volunteers.
• Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
• Must have regular and reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel when necessary.
• Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for event setup and tear down.
During Events (from setup to tear down) or on Event days:
• Ability to stand 4 or more hours continuously.
• Ability to walk 4 or more hours continuously.
• Ability Standing:  duration of 4+ hours for events
• Ability to work greater than a 10 hour day
