Position Summary

Reporting to the Department Chair and DAAF, with dotted line relationships with the Faculty Directors of the MA in Statistics Program, the Assistant Director of Academic Affairs manages and supports the academic operations of the MA in Statistics and MA in Statistics Hybrid programs.  In this role, the Assistant Director of Academic Affairs works closely with the programs’ faculty directors and faculty advisors, provides current students guidance on program requirements, registration, elective course approval, and a range of policies and procedures to deliver organized and effective student services. The Assistant Director of Academic Affairs will also work closely with the Career Development Officer of the MA programs to integrate seamlessly academic and professional development, and organize recruitment efforts, program information sessions, and provide administrative support during the admissions process.


•Under the supervision of the MA programs’ Faculty Directors, the Department Chair and DAAF, plans and executes academic programming and student events for the MA in Statistics Programs, which include, but are not limited to, orientation, meetings with student reps, lunchtime events with speakers and/or mentors, career panels, the graduation reception, and other special events as necessary; coordinates with the MA programs’ career officer on events jointly between academic affairs and professional developments.

•Working closely with the Department DAAF, identifies and selects course graders for the MA courses; plans and executes grader training sessions before each semester; evaluates grader performance with instructors at the end of each semester; oversees the MA help room and additional tutoring service as part of the MA programs’ student services.

•Works closely with the Programs' Faculty Directors to host admission information sessions and implement strategic recruitment plans; prepares materials to be disseminated for admission and recruitment purposes.

•Working closely with MA programs’ Faculty Directors, designs and implements regular annual students’ quality of life surveys and/or exit surveys when students graduate; summarizes findings from surveys for the MA programs’ annual report and advisory committee meetings.  Working closely with the Department DAAF, oversees the coordination, communication, and implementation of the academic calendar, course schedule, exemption/final exam schedule, and academic classroom scheduling; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with GSAS offices of Admissions, Academic Affairs, Financial Aid and Career Development, the University Registrar, the Office of Disability Services, and the Office of Student Conduct. 

•Working with the Program Coordinator, with supervision provided by the Faculty Directors, oversees all communication to students; ensures clear and timely communication to faculty advisors and students on the program and curricular policies, procedures, and deadlines.

•Under the supervision of the MA programs’ Faculty Directors, serves as the primary point person for clarification of program-related policies and procedures; maintain accurate and up-to-date records of current requirements, procedures, and policies; provides guidance to students on registration processes and elective course approval; provides detailed information to students on program requirements, procedures, and deadlines; ensure the programs’ website and the GSAS program page display the most updated program information.

•Working with the Faculty Directors of the MA in Statistics programs, monitors student files to ensure adequate academic progress, assists with the certification of students for graduation; addresses disciplinary concerns and issues related to poor academic performance; implements and enforces policies on academic integrity and completion of academic requirements.

•Supervise work-study and/or higher education interns who may help with academic affairs activities of the MA programs.

•Performs other duties relating to the MA programs deemed essential by the Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. At least three years of related experience required

Preferred Qualifications

•An advanced degree in higher education administration strongly preferred.

•Experience in higher education administration preferred.

•Experience in quantitative academic programs preferred.

Other Requirements

•Experience in student services, event coordination, and staff supervision.

•Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.

•Must have strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite of productivity tools.

•Must be a self-starter and able to work independently and set priorities.

•Must be detail and deadline oriented.
