Job Summary
 

The Assistant Director, Faculty Support will provide guidance, support, and programming to Booth non-Center research staff; directly support at most four Booth tenure-line faculty; and deliver effective solutions to research staff, faculty, and the larger Booth community.

Responsibilities

  • Guides and supports faculty as they recruit, hire, and onboard full-time research staff.  Execute processes related to recruiting (information sessions), time management (Workday), ongoing management support (performance engagement), and programming.
  • Works closely with faculty managing research staff to ensure their research needs have been met. Assists faculty with learning and implementing best practices for hiring diverse candidates and implementing inclusive practices.
  • Maintains existing content and create new content for the Chicago Booth research staff website. Maintains social media channels.
  • Designs and executes programming for research staff.  Examples include faculty presentations to research staff, research staff workshops, orientation week sessions on operations related to research, trainings on unconscious bias and bystander intervention, and professional development programming.
  • Supports Booth’s work as part of the PREDOC Consortium.  Supports will range as the Consortium develops, but may include course design, a part-time RA matching program, a PREDOC bridge program, or academic and professional development programming for current pre-docs.
  • Provides faculty administrative support to SSRN, including Booth’s SSRN working paper series.
  • Supports at most four faculty as described below.  Faculty load may be temporarily increased for faculty coverage during staff transitions.
  • Furthers the faculty mission of teaching through the creation and preparation of course materials and websites.  Oversees and manages teaching assistants on behalf of faculty in a manner consistent with faculty requirements.  Responds to students on a wide variety of concerns and course-related questions.  Enters grades with delegated authority from faculty members, ensuring FERPA privacy guidelines are met.
  • Furthers the faculty research mission by providing technical and administrative support for research.  Works will vary by faculty member supported, but may include: data ingestion and cleaning, manuscript editing, submitting papers to journals, RA time management, grant management, and literature reviews. 
  • Manages day-to-day operation of faculty group, primarily in the areas of financial and support services management. Ensures compliance with relevant Booth, University and other policies and guidelines. Oversees management of the day-to-day financial processes, payment of invoices, and processing of reimbursements.  May develop financial reporting for grants.  Creates, edits, and maintains class web pages and faculty personal web pages.
  • Performs some routine and complex assignments for the unit usually in the areas of finance, event planning or support services. Initiate the hiring process of students and staff for a unit, which includes the processing of payroll.
  • Researches and analyzes data to create reports, and may create other reports for grants and contracts.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
