About the Role

Student Financial Services seeks an Assistant Director for Awarding. This position will help Boston University Student Financial Services achieve Boston University’s goals for recruitment, retention, and superior service by assisting students and parents in financing their education through financial analysis, planning, and advisement for students on the medical campus. This Assistant Director ensures a timely and accurate review of financial aid applications, evaluate student eligibility for financial assistance using both federal and institutional methodology, award financial aid funds, and provide counseling to students and families. Additionally, this position will conduct loan entrance and exit counseling, debt management, and personal budget advising to students.

The Assistant Director for Awarding works closely various offices within the School of Medicine, Graduate Medical Science, School of Dental Medicine, and School of Public Health. Additionally, the position will work closely with Student Accounting Services, and the Office of Financial Assistance.

The Assistant Director’s primary duties include:

  • Advising students and their families within a caseload over the phone, e-mail, and in-person;
  • Organizing, prioritizing, and using effective judgement using reporting management students to assist with financial aid application reviews;
  • Serving as a primary contact for internal colleagues on the medical campus related to financial aid eligibility and awarding student financial aid;
  • Serving as an administrative liaison for service and non-service stipends;
  • Reconciling and evaluating confidential data provided on student financial aid applications;
  • Determining student’s eligibility;
  • Awarding and certifying Federal Graduate PLUS and private credit-based loans and;
  • Analyzing reports

Boston University Student Financial Services is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU Student Financial Services plays a critical role in ENSA’s mission by providing important services through timely and accurate review of BUMC financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs and related issues.

About the Candidate

A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who:

  • Has at least three to five years of experience;
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills;
  • Is an effective problem solver;
  • Displays excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills;
  • Has the ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines;
  • Work well independently and in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment and;

Working knowledge of federal and state financial aid policies, procedures, and regulations are preferred but not required. Experience using PeopleSoft Campus Solutions is a plus.
