Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Disability Services, under general direction, assists in the daily operations of services and programs administered by the Office of Disability Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily operation of services and programs administered by the Office of Disability Services including coordinating and providing academic accommodations, exam services, faculty training, and consultation.

  • Reviews documentation, conducts intakes, and determines appropriate academic accommodations.

  • Assists with hiring, training, and supervision of staff.

  • Assists with budget development and implementation, developing strategic planning, assessment, and evaluation of programs.

  • Assists faculty in meeting accommodation requests.

  • Serves on committees.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assists in overseeing the procurement and maintenance of a variety of adaptive equipment and services. 

  • Create outreach events for students, faculty, and staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Rehabilitation.

  • Experience – Six years of related experience; a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Rehabilitation.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Americans with Disabilities Act and other applicable Federal and State laws.   

Ability to:

  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Determine appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.

  • Interpret standard psychological assessments and diagnostic methods for use in determining accommodations.

Preferred Knowledge and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and experience in the application of these laws to accommodation requests in the academic setting.

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to serving people with disabilities in post-secondary education.

Licensing / Professional Certification – Preferred: Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or similar certification.
