About the Department
 

Alumni Relations & Development (ARD) engages alumni (~190k), current students, parents and friends of the University through intellectual, professional and social activities on campus, around the world and online. ARD raises $550 Million annually to support faculty and researchers, practitioners and patients, and students and The Division of the Humanities development team consists of three fundraising professionals who work collaboratively to secure annual, major, and principal gift support for divisional priorities and objectives, as set by the Dean, and to foster increased engagement with the division. The team raises approximately $10M annually and undertakes this work by developing meaningful relationships and curating high touch engagement opportunities for current donors, leadership volunteers, and individuals interested in the Division of Humanities. The Humanities development team is part of the broader, centrally organized, division of ARD and part of the thematically organized Humanities and the Arts fundraising cohort which also includes fundraising teams within the Divinity School, the Smart Museum of Art, the Court Theatre, UChicago Arts, the Oriental Institute, the University Libraries, the Neubauer Collegium, and the Institute on the Formation of Knowledge. This position has a hybrid work schedule which includes weekly in office presence located in Hyde Park at 5235 South Harper Court.


Job Summary
 

The job provides professional support and project management for the Division of Humanities development activities by facilitating and executing assigned activities with a focus on stewardship and communication projects, cultivation programs and engagement opportunities, and support for key donor and volunteer groups in partnership with team members, faculty, and the dean.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Humanities Division's comprehensive stewardship program, including monthly acknowledgement letter processes, annual stewardship reporting, and planning and execution of development related divisional events and engagement opportunities.

  • Partnership with the Director and the Office of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, coordinate and track direct response marketing efforts across all giving channels (email, mail, phone) on behalf of the Division.

  • Plans and supports the Humanities volunteer Advisory Council engagements and activities in partnership with the Director.

  • Support the Director and Associate Director with donor engagement by gathering information from divisional partners on events, research, stories, and other updates.

  • Analyze and synthesize donor data to prepare reports on program performance across all gift levels and identify potential prospects.

  • Assists in developing support materials for specific fundraising activities.

  • Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance including attending webinars, seminars, building networks within the University and with colleagues at peer institutions.

  • Has a moderate/solid understanding of fundraising operations for a school or department of the University. Identifies budget requirements and staffing needs on a project or event basis.

  • Has a moderate/high level of authority in drafting informational and marketing materials for review for assigned programs. Assists in developing support materials for specific fundraising activities.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Advanced degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of relevant professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales, or related field.

  • Interest in higher education, teaching, research, and study.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to the Office of Alumni Relations and Development, including the University's donor relationship management system and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions

  • This position has a hybrid work schedule which includes weekly in office presence.

  • Travel for events and qualification visits based on programmatic and regional needs to strengthen engagement with the Humanities Division.

  • Work evenings and weekends as needed.

  • This position is located in Hyde Park at 5235 South Harper Court.
