Assistant Director of Development – Heersink School of Medicine

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an Assistant Director of Development to join the Department of Medicine development team within the Heersink School of Medicine. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development, the Assistant Director of Development will efficiently solicit and close a defined number of mid-level gifts (up to $25,000) within a specified timeframe in support of the Heersink School of Medicine. Expected outcomes include intentional meetings with unqualified and/or qualified prospects (alumni (including residents and fellows) and grateful patients) to build and maintain a portfolio of mid-to-high net worth prospects. There is also the expectation that the Assistant Director of Development will meet/exceed established metrics on an annual basis – including dollar, visit, solicitations, and proposals presented goals.
This position will work with assigned clinician champions in identifying and qualifying grateful patient prospects for assigned units within the Heersink School of Medicine.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Development for the Department of Medicine within the Heersink School of Medicine, representing leadership throughout the Heersink School of Medicine and Office of Advancement.
This position will be an integral member of the school’s Office of Development and UAB Advancement, lastly this position is full-time that may qualify for a hybrid work schedule.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Senior Director of Development for the Department of Medicine to help build a pipeline of future major and principal donors for assigned units and projects
- Significant regional travel to engage grateful patients and alumni
- Build and maintain a donor network of mid-to-high net worth prospects and establish a portfolio of individuals, including alumni and grateful patients, with the capacity to make mid-level/major gifts within The Department of Medicine and other assigned areas
- Be accountable for individual fundraising productivity, donor engagement and cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship metrics
- Performs other duties assigned
Annual Salary Range: $52,555 - $65,000
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or related field
- 3 years of fundraising or equivalent experience
- Work experience may not substitute for education requirement
- After-hours work and travel required
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have experience with the following:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
- CRM
- HIPAA
