Job Description:

The Choices Program is a national education initiative affiliated with the Brown University Department of History. The Assistant Director of Curriculum Development for World History is a key position of the Choices Program.  This position is responsible for the leadership, development, and execution of Choices Programâ™s multi-year effort to create a comprehensive curriculum series on world history, establishing a plan for completion, and writing the curriculum content. The position is also accountable for ensuring that the most current secondary education pedagogies are integrated and used uniformly in the multiple individual projects by the other members of the curriculum production group. The Assistant Director of Curriculum Development for World History is also a key contributing member of the curriculum development team that produces curriculum on U.S. and world history and current events.

The Choices Program curriculum group produces content for secondary school social studies classrooms on historic and contemporary issues. 

The incumbent also contributes to the outreach of the Choices Program and manages graduate student assistants.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelorâ™s Degree and 5-7 years of experience producing secondary school curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Masterâ™s degree preferred.
  • Experience conducting original research and producing academic writing in the fields of history, international affairs, and/or related fields.
  • Classroom teaching experience.
  • Superlative writing and editing skills, with an ability to write for a secondary-level audience.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills including an ability to prepare and present clear and informative information.
  • Knowledge of the relevant theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and content in the fields of history, international affairs, and/or related fields.
  • Knowledge of national education standards and secondary-level pedagogy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and to meet deadlines.
  • Highly proficient computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases and Google Suite applications.
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the Choices Program.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback and to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.

Additional physical demands and working conditions:

On the rare occasion may have to work weekends.

This position is hybrid eligible.
