Job Description Summary:
This position provides oversight of major project administration responsibilities for the in-house facilities construction team including the construction of major repairs, renovation and improvements, and special maintenance projects at the Medical Center Campus. This includes assigning, prioritizing, and coordinating resources for construction services. This position reports to the Director – FM Projects.
Job Description:

Salary:  $70k - $80k

Required Qualifications:

  • Basic education requirement- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (Construction Management)

  • Basic management experience- 5 years

  • Basic functional experience- 5 years

  • Basic budget management experience- 5years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Architectural Engineering

  • Familiarity of 2012 IBC Codes

  • Familiarity of 2010 ADA Standards

Job Duties Outlined:

Project Management

  • Manage the scheduling and completion of existing and newly added Construction projects. This will include the allocation of staff and material resources to ensure timely completion of projects.

  • Provides cost estimates for in-house construction work orders and assists in cost estimates for large in-house construction projects.

  • Provide technical expertise in the planning and writing of complex and detailed specifications for construction projects.

  • Coordinate construction and project related activities with other Managers in Facilities Management, Architectural Services, outside architectural firms, campus divisions and departments.

  • Coordinate state construction approved reviews with the State Architect office. Resolves construct-ability problems in the field.

  • Oversees completion of life safety systems tests on in-house construction projects.

  • Partner with the project architect to provide construction administration oversight for assigned maintenance and small capital construction projects. Includes: Verifying and reporting project cost controls/budgets, monitoring changes to projects and recommending remedial measures where necessary, providing oversight of project inspections and testing, project close-out procedures, and acceptance of completed projects.


Administrative

  • Participate in the overall preparation of the Budget for the in-house facilities construction team.

  • Provide recommendations to and consult with the Director of Projects and Planning in setting up budget priorities and changing priorities as changes in scheduling occur.

  • Oversees material management, equipment and tool purchases.

  • Partner with the business office on all procurement, billing, and financial activities to ensure they are in compliance with state, university, and department policies.

Staff Development

  • Creates an atmosphere/environment that promotes a sense of “ownership” and “empowerment” so each team member is responsive to the needs of the campus.

  •  Assists employees in communicating and understanding departmental and university policies.

  • Promotes respect for each individual employee and others in the campus community.

  • Promotes both formal and informal training for employees and develops new policies and procedures as necessary to maximize the utilization of time, equipment, and staff.

  • Develop and manage construction team members to include coaching, mentoring, counseling and administering appropriate disciplinary actions, when necessary.

  • Administer and ensure completion of annual performance reviews as well as ongoing feedback sessions.
