Position Title ASSISTANT DIRECTOR / CMU CARES
Position Summary
The Assistant Director performs duties in support of or backup to the Director and manages the daily case management needs of distressed students who come to the attention of CMU CARES. The Assistant Director works closely with campus partners and performs Care Advocate duties as appropriate to the CMU CARES effort.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree, preferably in social work or counseling.
One year of experience in personal counseling.
Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice in the Sate of Michigan.
Comfort with consultation model, cirisi intervention, and triage.
High degree of personal and professional integrity, a strong sense of ethics, and respect for privacy and confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong human relation skills.
Willingness to serve on university committees aimed at prevention of mental health issues.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
One year experience as a Care Advocate.
Experience working in higher education, preferably within residence life, student conduct, crisis management, or case management.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive and confidential situations.
Strong documentation and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities.
Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress.
Knowledge of case management system software (e.g. Advocate).
Duties & Responsibilities
Performs duties in support of or backup to the CMU CARES Director which could include coordination and facilitation of Care meetings, coordinating Care response paths/student outreach, tracking and monitoring of Care response paths, and the documentation of Care efforts.
Oversees management of program files, facilitates team meetings and staff on-boarding.
Coordinates with appropriate campus partners regarding interdisciplinary intervention efforts.
Consults with parents and student supporters seeking information on the support services offered on campus.
Participates in CMU Care Team meetings, and other meetings as requested.
Maintains knowledge of promising practices and works collaboratively with CMU CARES Director to assist in the ongoing development of the Care effort.
Provides assessment (triage) for students in crisis or needing support, including appropriate referrals to university or community mental health services.
Provides support, consultation, and information to Residence Life staff, including updates on students of concern.
Maintains appropriate documentation, i.e. clinical notes.
Provides periodic reports including semester and end of year summary.
Brings to the attention of the CMU CARES Director and/or Care Team any serious university situation which may impact students in a negative way.
Participates with university-wide prevention programs as needed.
Attends residence life staff meetings as needed.
