Job Title Assistant Director, Clinical Operations
Job Description
The Assistant Director, Clinical Operations is a key member of the University Health Services (UHS) Management Team who assists in managing the UHS college health clinic, a dynamic, data-driven, patient-centric primary care practice that serves Notre Dame students. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, approachable, energetic leader who meets challenges head on with a consistently positive attitude, encouraging interdisciplinary collegiality and teamwork. The Assistant Director is responsible for training and support of a robust staff dedicated to excellence and compassionate care, serving as the primary resource person for clinic operations. They ensure organized, efficient processes that enable the department to meet its vision of “excellent college health care, infused with our Notre Dame values, to foster lifelong well-being,”
The Assistant Director, Clinical Operations will:
Supervise and Manage Clinical Operations
  • Personnel management and clinical care supervision.
  • Hires, supervises, trains and supports nurses and patient care assistants, and ensures that the clinical coverage meets the needs of the clinical operations.
  • Personnel and policy management, including individual development plans; addressing patient complaints, goal setting, and annual evaluations.
  • The individual ensures a high-level of clinical expertise among the staff through one on one mentoring and professional development oversight. Maintain clinical competency and work clinically as needed.
  • Work with Director and Medical Director staff to evaluate the effectiveness of the clinical operations.

Risk Management and Safety Control
  • Oversight and management of safety and infection control through the following activities: serves as the Safety and Infection Control Committee chair; complete relevant incident reporting in collaboration with Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Represents UHS on institutional oversight bodies.
  • Updates and ensures compliance with relevant policies; and investigates/mitigates safety or infection control policy breaches.
  • Plans, conducts and debriefs emergency preparedness drills (eg. fire and medical) with the UHS team.
  • Collaborates with Director on accreditation activities: review of policies; preparation of facility; training of clinical staff; preparation of survey application materials; and participation in survey visit.

Other Opportunities
  • Maintenance of current clinic equipment, policies and procedures.
  • Works with the Management team at UHS to devise current methods of clinic operations through national benchmarking and best-practices assessment.
  • Serve on university committees as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • 5+ years experience of nursing with a preference in nursing leadership.
  • Ability to work within the context of the US Catholic Bishops’ Religious and Ethical Directives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Nursing management experience in primary care or hospital settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Experience in college health, AAAHC accreditation and Infection Control preferred.
