Assistant Director, Career Management/Graduate School of Arts and Sciences/ Graduate Career Center - Georgetown’s Graduate Career Center was created in 2019 with a vision to help Masters and PhD candidates identify and achieve their career goals. The Graduate Career Center is a small but collaborative team that believes students should consider career management as an integral part of their graduate school experience and have solid guidance from career services professionals to ensure their career efforts are effective.  The Center is seeking an Assistant Director to support the career aspirations of students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. 

The Assistant Director will be responsible for all aspects of student career development, external outreach, and outcomes support.

This includes meeting with students individually and in group settings to help them identify career paths and career goals, develop strong resumes, plan and execute effective networking strategies and interview with confidence.  The Assistant Director will also be responsible for establishing and cultivating relationships with organizations and alumni for career events while also facilitating connections to students seeking employment. 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct individual and group career coaching for Master’s and PhD candidates, advising in all areas of career management including job searching, networking, resumes, interviewing and offer negotiation.
  • Provide timely information to students, staff and faculty on relevant career-related events as well as jobs and internships using the career center’s owned media channels.
  • Develop and cultivate industry specific relationships with employers and alumni who can support graduate students through knowledge sharing, network building and recruiting.
  • Lead and/or participate in workshops, career panels, career fairs and other career-related events in collaboration with other career centers, departments or other centers at Georgetown University

Work Interactions

The Assistant Director will report to the Director, Graduate Career Center.  This position will interact principally with graduate students in the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Continuing Studies. The position also entails interaction with career center staff across the university, Georgetown alumni, outside speakers, business professionals and employers. Periodic interaction with the Graduate School Dean and Dean’s office staff, Georgetown faculty and other staff will also occur.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years of experience in career services, career development/coaching, human resources, employer relations or related field
  • Career development expertise and knowledge of current trends in recruiting including the use of AI in both job searching and hiring
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong ability to develop relationships across constituents including students, employers, faculty and alumni
  • High degree of professionalism and the ability to positively represent Georgetown, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate Career Center to both internal and external audiences
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the job market
  • Experience working with and supporting students, staff, faculty, and employers

Preferred requirements and qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • ICF coaching certification preferred but not required
