Position Summary
Primary focus is on career readiness and student support, as well as program development and cross-campus collaboration. The CDF/CERM offers individual career coaching, internship, and job-search advising to students and alumni, develops and presents workshops, and develops positive relationships with students, employers, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents. The CDF/CERM may also assist with web-based technology, data collection, management, and reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Career Counseling/Programming
- Assists students in clarifying academic and career goals through individual career counseling.
- Administers and interprets Focus 2 Careers or other assessments used in the Center for Career and Professional Development.
- Assists students in using career resource library and finding information on the web.
- Participates in the design and delivery of career-related workshops, programs, and panels.
- Helps students develop and refine resume writing, interviewing, and job-search skills.
- Develops and delivers workshops and career-related programs, including new initiatives on how best to use the Internet for career discovery/job-search purposes.
- Assists with the planning and promotion of the career services office to students, alumni, faculty, and employers through wide-array of marketing efforts.
- Assists with the updating of existing marketing materials and/or development of new materials.
- Serves as liaison to student groups, clubs, and organizations.
- Hires, trains and supervisors Career Service Graduate Assistant.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
A college degree with six months to two years of experience in a post secondary education environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, student personnel counseling preferred.
- Experience using Blackboard or other Learning Management System (LMS).
- Experience with career advising, coaching, and mentoring relationships with students, collegial relationships with staff and faculty required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Computer proficiency required. Internet skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office and Career Services Management software such as Purple Briefcase; NACELink/Symplicity; Handshake required.
- Knowledge of career development theory and practice, job outlook trends & forecasts, employer relations, job search strategies, interviewing techniques, and resume/correspondence writing required.
- Experience with career advising, coaching, and mentoring relationships with students, collegial relationships with staff and faculty required.
- Knowledge with Strong Interest Inventory Strengths Quest, DiSC or similar tool(s) preferred.
- Knowledge of professional standards for college/university career services and Career Readiness Competencies for college graduates.
- Outstanding organizational skills, strong verbal, written and public presentation skills are essential for success in this role. Previous experience in post-secondary admissions, financial aid, residence life or student affairs preferred.
- Knowledge of experiential learning (internships, cooperative education, externships) standards and definitions as defined by National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Licenses/Certifications
- Experience or Certification in TypeFocus Careers or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator required.
- Certification in Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF).
- NACE Coaching Certification Program (CCP)

Commensurate with experience
Anticipated Schedule
Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Some Saturdays and Evenings
