About the African American Cultural and Resource Center

The African American Cultural and Resource Center (AACRC) fosters an atmosphere where lively conversation is welcomed and encouraged, leadership development and academic success are prioritized, and quiet study spaces are regularly utilized. The AACRC also hosts several large-scale traditional programs that are annual marquee events of the African American experience at the University of Cincinnati. Now celebrating its 30th year, the AACRC is poised to become a model for cultural and racial understanding in higher education. The Center serves as a resource for enlightenment about the Black experience and has become a known resource for a variety of organizations on campus and in the Greater Cincinnati community.


Job Overview

Under general supervision from a designated administrator, assist with the administration and direction of a multifunctional department or center. Manage, develop, modify, present, and assess co-curricular educational activities and student development programs including but not limited to Open House, Akwaaba (student welcome), Kuamka (leadership competition and excellence programming week), Ushindi (end of the year award celebration), and Tyehimba (Afrocentric celebration for graduates). Provide oversight of AACRC reservations, maintain website and outward marketing materials, and represent the department on various university committees.


Essential Functions
  • Assist with development, implementation and administration of goals to achieve strategic objectives; assume management responsibility for a wide range of projects/tasks associated with primary business operations and/or corporate relations that have significant impact within the business function.
  • Develop internal policies, procedures, controls, and manage processes to increase internal business and/or external corporate partnerships and advance service levels; responsible for policy execution and results that enrich the department/center, the campus and the university; consults with Director on major policy changes affecting other departments.
  • May be responsible for coordinating a function or program(s) with significant impact on external relations.
  • May be responsible for collaborating efforts with administrative and academic units (i.e., Public Relations, Academic Colleges, Foundation, etc.) to enhance business/community partnerships.
  • Assist with preparation of annual unit operating budget recommendations; develop, implement and monitor assigned budgets; limited signature authority for purchases and payroll.
  • Prepare reports, disseminate/interpret information, provide advice, write proposals, deliver presentations, construct contractual agreements, and ensure that all programs and services comply with university, state and federal regulations.
  • Communicate and assist students, parents, corporate partners to resolve questions and complex issues; represent the university internally and externally.
  • Assist with administrative leadership and supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff; hire, orient, train, mentor and evaluate assigned staff; monitor and coordinate staff development and training programs.
  • May function for the Director or Associate Director in his/her absence, as required.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e.,
  • hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement

Required Experience

Three (3) years related experience


Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or Social Work or related field.
  • Experience creating and implementing large-scale cultural programming.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary diversity, cultural awareness, gender equity, inclusion, social justice, and issues as they apply to higher education.
  • Knowledgeable in the intersectionality's as well as cultural and societal issues of Black communities.
  • Experience advising and providing ongoing support to students.
  • Skilled in grant writing, seeking sponsorships, and/or managing budgets.
  • Experience managing the operations and functionality of a space.
  • Flexibility for some evening and weekend work is required.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
