Job Description

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Advising Services, under direction, oversees student, staff, and faculty training programs, marketing advising services, and assists with developing programs focused on student persistence and success. Participates in advising registration and retention activities of Advising Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in directing daily activities of Advising Services.

  • Assists with implementing a Centralized Advising Model

  • Assists with managing, developing, and implementing student retention initiatives and creating a proof of concept for various needs

  • Advises new, returning, and prospective students on developing a plan for personal and academic success.

  • Assists with the support, development, implementation, and evaluation of new and continuing programs designed to improve student persistence and success.

  • Prepares reports on program activities, aimed at assessment purposes.

  • Develops and implements training programs and resources for student employees, advisors, and faculty.

  • Develops marketing strategies to reach faculty and students.

  • Serves on various committees.

  • Generates and analyzes data regarding student success and persistence.

Minimum Requirements

Education – Master’s degree in Education or Social Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience – Six years of related experience.

Knowledge of – Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to relate to College students, parents, faculty, and the public. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

Experience – Experience counseling students with challenging courses or life challenges that may interrupt degree completion. Experience with retention efforts in a higher education environment. Experience with advising academically at-risk student populations.

Skills & Abilities – Data & case management skills. Ability to work with diverse populations including students, faculty, and staff. 

Supervision of Others

This position generally supervises employees.

Other Requirements

  • Work beyond normal offices hours and/or work on weekends.

  • Travel required.
