The Assistant Director, Admissions is an integral member of the Chinese admissions team and will travel extensively to assigned regions within Mainland China to conduct outreach and recruit Chinese applicants to NYU Shanghai. The Assistant Director will review applications and support the selection process and work closely with the Associate Director of Chinese Admissions and other team leadership on planning and executing on and off-campus events, the student ambassador program and campus tours. The Assistant Director will support all aspects of the Chinese admissions cycle: from responding to incoming inquiries from prospective and current applicants, to interviewing and evaluating student applicants to implementing yield events and finalizing matriculated student lists.
Responsibilities
Outreach and Recruitment (40%)
- Travel to assigned regions within Mainland China to promote NYU Shanghai and recruit potential students;
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with key regional stakeholders, including key high schools, relevant offices of the Education and Examination Administrations of assigned provinces and alumni and parent networks;
- Conduct in-person and virtual information sessions, specialized workshops, high school visits and campus tours for prospective students and their parents;
- Represent NYU Shanghai at regional events with stakeholder audiences, such as high school fairs, conferences and exhibitions.
Evaluation and Selection (30%)
- Review large numbers of applications from China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) for admission to NYU Shanghai;
- Develop expertise on examinations and grading scales of assigned territories;
- Support the maintenance and operation of information systems for the Chinese admissions, quota allocation and matriculation processes;
- Assist with the planning and execution of Candidate Weekend and yield events.
Additional Responsibilities (30%)
- Effectively utilize matriculated student platforms and data systems;
- Support ongoing marketing and communication initiatives, including the student ambassador programs;
- Answer phone, email and online group chat inquiries;
- Support the operation and function of the Welcome Center;
- Data entry and general office administration;
- Additional assignments as required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred;
- Previous working experience in Chinese higher education institution.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Native Mandarin speaker, with excellent speaking, writing and presentation skills;
- Strong English communication skills;
- Knowledge of Chinese and US higher education systems and provincial Gaokao policies;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and client service skills;
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
- Facility with Microsoft Office suite and experience using student-based CRMs preferred;
- Significant travel within Chinese and to New York is expected;
- Availability on evenings and weekends.
