Job Overview

Reporting directly to the Director of the Learning Commons, this position will provide leadership, planning, and day-to-day direction for the Learning Commons College Success Programs- Academic Coaching and Success Skills Workshops. They will also oversee Success Plans for students required to attend Learning Commons services and be a liaison to campus partners.  This position may have the ability to work off-campus intermittently depending on the needs of the unit.  


Essential Functions

Assistant Director Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the Learning Commons Leadership Team.
  • Oversee the operations of at least one internal "Goal Team" focusing on an area of intra-office collaboration.
  • Oversee operations within the Learning Commons main office, including organizational and technological systems (i.e. TracCloud, centralized admin processes for Learning Commons main desk and office, etc.) and office outreach.
  • Coordinate with Front Desk supervisor and Academic Services Administrator for Peer Tutoring and the Academic Writing Center to maintain office consistency.
  • Coordinate with partner offices to develop outreach and collaborative academic support programming such as academic alert and probation interventions.
  • Develop program objectives and corresponding assessment program. Collect and monitor program data, identify problems and solutions, develop clear goals and action steps for program enhancement.
  • Research and analyze relevant literature, benchmark institution information, and innovative practices in order to develop new program ideas, evidence-based training regimens, and center practices.
  • Assist in Learning Commons research and staff development initiatives.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.  

 

Academic Coaching and Success Skills Workshop Responsibilities:

Coordinate all Academic Coaching and Success Skills Workshop services, training, assessment, and promotion. Responsibilities including:

  • Oversee Academic Coaching and Success Skills Workshop services, programs, and staff.
  • Design and implement training for staff.
  • Assess and report outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Direct supervision of student staff (i.e. performance evaluations, disciplinary action, leave requests, etc.).
  • Collaborate with relevant Learning Commons staff, advisors, and faculty to develop and maintain the Academic Coaching and Success Skills Workshop program.

Minimum Requirements

Masters degree with three (3) years of experience. 
 


Additional Qualifications Considered
  • 3+ years working in learning assistance with coaching or college success initiatives, advising, or retention programming at the post-secondary level.
  • Engaged with research and literature around interventions for alert, probation, and first-year students, Motivational Interviewing, student success, anti-deficit frameworks, and retention.
  • Familiarity with educational technology such as TutorTrac, Access Databases/Query software, and Canvas (or other similar LMSs).
  • Experience supervising, hiring, and training undergraduate students in professional settings.
  • Masters in college student personnel, student affairs in higher education, educational studies, or a relevant field.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
