With an annual budget over $4 million dollars, the department consists of 21 permanent faculty including four endowed chairships who teach and do research in both the social and natural sciences. This research is frequently supported by funding from granting agencies and provides employment opportunities for numerous graduate student researchers (GSR) and postdoctoral scholars. We have 3 adjunct professors and 52 affiliated faculty. We administer the appointment process for over 40 temporary staff (including several visiting foreign scholars) on an annual basis. The department offers undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees including combined majors with biology, earth sciences, and economics, and a concentration in Agroecology. We also have a robust internship program (667 completed in 2014-15), and field study opportunities (593 students enrolled in field study courses in 2014-15). There are currently 50 graduate students and approximately 685 proposed and declared majors in the program.
Sub-units within the department are the Center for Integrated Spatial Research (CISR) and the Kenneth S. Norris Center for Natural History (NCNH). We are also closely affiliated with the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS). Gifts to the NCNH & CASFS alone totaled $6 million in 2013-14. We also work closely with staff in the UC Natural Reserve System whose offices are in space assigned to our department.  
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, faculty, students and the general public verbally and in writing.
Excellent organizational and time management skills sufficient to work independently and set priorities in a work environment with frequent interruptions and distractions.
Ability to demonstrate flexibility and maintain a positive, solutions-oriented approach while identifying, recommending and implementing improved processes in response to a rapidly changing organization.
Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs: Google productivity suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FileMaker Pro, etc.
Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Basic knowledge of financial policies, practices and systems.  
Experience with human resource actions.
Experience with academic program support.
Experience with University of California, Santa Cruz computing applications or equivalent: DivData, Infoview, CCLP, CruzBuy, CruzPay, ERF, etc.).
