THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSITION. 

The College of Medicine (COM) at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) seeks an outstanding and dynamic medical educator for the position of Assistant Dean of Pre-Clinical Curriculum domiciled in Memphis.

We are seeking a current UTHSC COM faculty member who is student-centered to serve as the Assistant Dean for Pre-Clinical Curriculum. The major responsibilities of the assistant dean include:

·     Work with the Sr. Assistant Dean for Pre-Clinical Curriculum, and the course and module directors to oversee the medical student curriculum for the M1-M2 years.

·     Assist in tracking student performance on summative assessments.

·     Assist in maintaining compliance for accreditation for the MD degree program through serving as a member of the Quality Improvement and Compliance Committee.

·     Write the annual MD program ASLO report for UTHSC campus accreditation through SACSCOC.

·     Oversee, coordinate, and implement scheduling of M1 and M2 student curricular/student affairs events, semester calendar, room reservations, faculty staffing, exam scheduling, MediaSite recordings, online Zoom classes, etc.

·     Work with students and mentor them on their academic progress through the M1-M2 years as directed by the Sr. Assistant Dean for Basic Science Curriculum. Assist in the oversight of quality improvement efforts related to the M1-M2 curriculum.

·     Support curriculum development efforts and engage in scholarly activity in medical education research.

·     Mentor and support course and module directors and teaching faculty within the pre-clinical curriculum.

The Assistant Dean reports directly to the Sr. Assistant Dean for Pre-Clinical  Curriculum, currently Kaushik Parthasarathi, PhD.  It is anticipated this position will require 40% effort with a corresponding decrease in other, currently assigned duties. 

Requirements:  The successful candidate must have a PhD or MD, must be at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at UTHSC, be an active teacher in the M1-M2 curriculum, and have a minimum of 6 months leadership experience as a course director or some other recognized leadership role related to the M1-M2 medical student curriculum. In addition, the individual should have:

·         Strong organizational and managerial skills

·         Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills

·         Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work with students and faculty of UT COM

·         Strong commitment to teamwork

·         Must be domiciled in Memphis
