The successful candidate will perform the duties of Assistant dean of Graduate Medical Education reporting to the Dean of School of Podiatric Medicine (SOPM). Primary responsibilities are to provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the podiatric residency programs for the SOPM. Be responsible for providing oversight, review, coordination, and planning for the school as it relates to all residency phases of the graduate podiatric medical education as well as development and implementation, faculty selection and supervision, and educational administration ensuring quality and effectiveness throughout the academic mission. Work with the Dean on establishing and maintaining clinical educational excellence by achieving uniformity in the educational objectives of the evaluation process. Facilitate the development and implementation of clinical competency examinations. Develop and implement an academic outcomes assessment plan. Teaches in a variety of settings incorporating technology and resident engaged pedagogies to maximize resident success. Provide expertise and innovation in the creation and management of the School and Departmental informational technologies including educational systems. Act as a liaison to hospitals affiliates to ensure effective communication and collaboration. Work with the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine faculty to ensure that curriculum is aligned with and achieving desired clinical goals. Provide oversight for development of clinical curricula including clinical skills and instructional delivery. Direct the application of information technology in teaching and learning, which includes building faculty awareness of what is currently possible, and supporting faculty use and development of educational programming.
Provide leadership in development, support, and implementation of the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine’s graduate training program and services leading to academic success of all residents. Establish a vision that supports the mission and strategy of the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine, providing strategic and tactical leadership to ensure the school will be viewed nationally as a model in podiatric medicine. Integrate clinical sciences all phases of instruction to ensure both vertical and horizontal integration of the curriculum. Perform special assignments as requested by the Dean.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the residency program, which includes liaising closely with administrative staff, faculty and leadership of the hospital.
  • Assists in the design, delivery and management of the GME residency rotations in alignment with CPME standards.
  • Works closely with faculty and leadership to co-create, implement and assess rotation innovations.
  • Oversees all aspects related to the evaluation of all aspects of residency education including faculty, resident and site evaluations in collaboration with the Office of Evaluation, and Assessment.
  • Identifies, supports, supervises and evaluates stakeholders involved with residency training program.
  • Continuously appraises the efficacy of the residency training in terms of attainment of competencies, appropriateness of sequencing, adequacy of content, pedagogical methods, etc. in order to promote meaningful learning experiences.
  • Recommends and implements high-impact, evidence-informed learning experiences.
  • Partners with rotation coordinators and clinical faculty to implement revisions and updates to clinical curriculum.
  • Work in conjunction with the GME manager in all aspects of the training.
  • Identifies, recruits, and develops clinical training sites for residency support and expansions.
  • Supervises clinical education to ensure resident rotation scheduling and curricular requirements, and daily job duties have been met and provides input into annual performance evaluation.
  • Works collaboratively with affiliated clinical sites in the utilization of shared resources, faculty and administrative expertise to ensure an optimal learning environment.
  • Acts as main point of contact for residents, faculty and administrators for all issues related to the clinical clerkship curriculum.
  • Monitors and addresses academic or disciplinary problems arising with residents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience in medicine-related field or experience directly related to the stated duties.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications
Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Knowledge of contemporary medical pedagogical issues involving medical education; experience in curriculum assessment and evaluation with a focus on improving measurable resident outcomes; and an understanding of medical school accreditation.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may 
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is 
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive 
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code 
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of 
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement 
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week 
and at least 135 days in length.
