Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati College of Law seeks an Assistant Dean of Academic Success and Bar Programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean develops and delivers programming, courses, and individual coaching to enable law students to achieve their academic potential and succeed on the bar exam. 


Essential Functions
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve the bar passage goals for graduates of the College of Law.  This includes organizing and presenting workshops and programs for students and faculty, as well as individual coaching for bar takers.
  • Administer and efficiently conduct the College of Law’s academic success program. This includes meeting individually with students to assess barriers to academic success, organizing and presenting specialized materials, workshops, and peer-to-peer study group programs that provide academic skill development. 
  • Deliver courses in skills and writing for the bar exam and skills-based courses keyed to other topics (e.g. Legal Ethics). 
  • Educate College of Law faculty on developments in the bar examination and data-informed trends in student bar performance. Collaborate with faculty on initiatives to improve bar examination performance, including academic rules and policies.    
  • Collect and report bar performance data to external accreditation and other required bodies.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, faculty, and academic personnel within the College and University.
  • Supervise staff and student employees.
  • Perform related duties based on College need. 

Minimum Requirements
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • License to practice law, acquired by bar examination, in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Prior academic or bar support teaching experience, or a suitable combination of one to three years of practice experience and adjunct teaching.
  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Sensitivity to students with varied learning styles, disabilities, and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze data.
  • Working knowledge of the Uniform Bar Exam.
