Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics. 
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.  
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Dean II for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) – Academic Programs & Research. The position is responsible for all degree completion and certification activities for undergraduate students at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. This position creates, implements, and provides leadership for all review and certification processes, including advising, registration activities, coordination of faculty and departmental advisors, and decision-making about institutional policies for seniors. The Assistant Dean is the institutional expert for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences on all issues related to degree completion and graduation, and as such, anticipates complex functional needs and develops recommendations and solutions for problems, policies and services that meet the needs of advanced undergraduate students while coordinating with the priorities of SEBS and the University.  This position is influential to both external and internal processes in the University, developing collaborative efforts and strategic alliances with internal constituents, such as the Registrar’s Office, academic departments at SEBS and other NB schools with programs completed by SEBS students, and other Rutgers units tasked with graduation/commencement planning, and external agencies including alumni, graduate and professional programs, and the professional community. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists students through a detailed and understandable process to effectively plan for degree completion and post-graduate opportunities, and educates students about their progress to timely degree completion and the institutional policies, opportunities, and resources that are key to a successful transition. 
  • Organizes the review and communication of graduation requirements to SEBS students, works with students and faculty to construct degree completion plans, and informs students of the process to graduation. 
  • To support experience-based education and post-grad planning, the Assistant Dean develops and maintains connections with alumni and others in outside agencies and organizations to enhance opportunities for SEBS students. 
  • Remains current on national and international trends and bench-marking of retention, graduation, and completion rates, particularly for diverse student populations, and provides assessment and data-gathering for review and analysis of SEBS graduation rates. 
  • Collaborates with the Office of the Registrar to enact degree certification, and with the Degree Navigator manager to enable accurate programming and maintenance of SEBS degree programs. 
  • Assists the Dean, Associate Dean, Office of Academic Programs teams, and faculty advisors in supporting SEBS undergraduates and fulfilling the SEBS and NJAES mission.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in higher ed, K-12 education, or related fields.

  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.

  • Familiarity with academic advising, particularly post-graduate and graduate school planning.
