The College of Engineering (COE) is seeking an Assistant Dean, Graduate Education and Strategic Initiatives with exceptional experience in student academic affairs that will promote growth in our applications, enrollment, strengthen our student success and postdoctoral support initiatives. This individual will collaborate with the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs on the College’s strategic vision for graduate student recruitment, retention and graduate student and postdoctoral trainee professional/career development, and strategic institutional partnerships and ensures the implementation of this vision. Along with providing direct supervision Graduate Education staff and oversees and manages the recruitment budget. They will also strategically lead COE graduate student recruitment and matriculation efforts both on and off campus.

 

Additional Responsibilities include :

  • Directs the college’s wide recruitment and responsible for implementation and retention activities and events
  • Partners with the Director of Engineering Career Services (ECS) on providing professional and career development activities and programming for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars and expanding internship opportunities for graduate students
  • Completes an annual assessment of graduate recruitment and retention strategies and identifies areas for improvement
  • Implements plans to enhance these initiatives and activities to meet the College’s goals
  • Partners with College and university units/departments and faculty, staff, trainees, and students
  • Develops and implements initiatives for holistic graduate student support and serves as a resource for faculty to create supportive environments for students

 

This position requires out of state travel and ability to work on nights and weekends (5-10%).


Additional Information:

Hiring Range: $85,000 - $114,000

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent education and/or experience in higher education, STEM, or a related field of study
  • 10+ years demonstrated experience in the field of graduate education or higher education student administration inclusive of experience in an administrative role
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with statistical software (i.e. SPSS, JMP, GraphPad, or other etc.) and ability to develop, interpret, and present data
  • Possesses deep understanding of postdoctoral experiences
  • Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, and to work collaboratively and diplomatically with a variety of constituents
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni and external organizations
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and delegate tasks effectively

Desired Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent education and/or experience in higher education, STEM, or a related field of study
  • Experience creating student success initiatives for transfer students
  • Knowledge of OSU policies, procedures, databases, and systems (i.e. Workday, SIS, Concur)
  • Experience and ability to work within and lead in a variety of electronic media platforms (i.e. websites, spreadsheets, social media, online forms, databases, etc.)
  • A network in the graduate education space at Ohio State and beyond
