Position Summary:

The Assistant Dean for Curricular Affairs oversees the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy.  The Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment and the course directors to ensure vertical and horizontal integration of course content and foster innovative approaches to teaching methodology, learner assessment, and evaluation. The position will facilitate curricular innovation and development to provide a high-quality learning experience for students. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversight/management of the curriculum (70% effort) – administrative duties

  • Manage the scheduling of courses, including electives for the didactic curriculum. This includes coordinating the scheduling of lab and IPPE groups, selection of student groups, and elective course offerings and student registration.
  • Provide leadership to the Curriculum Committee, course directors, and subject matter experts to foster quality course/lecture development and design to promote student learning in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment.
  • Implement and monitor curricular changes based on assessment data to provide a quality learning experience for students in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment.
  • Ensure faculty training and development opportunities across all campuses to facilitate excellence in student teaching and learning.
  • Support, encourage, and implement innovation in education.
  • Work collaboratively with department chairs for teaching needs in the curriculum in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment.
  • Collaborate with course directors and faculty in incorporating instructional strategies, integration of instructional technologies, appropriate assessment of learning, and best practices.
  • Foster communication among course directors for purposeful integration and scaffolding of content and assessment of student learning over the didactic curriculum.
  • Facilitate the development and administration of all policies and procedures related to curriculum delivery and development in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment.
  • Use student performance data to improve the curriculum and develop and refine student milestones in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment.
  • Work closely with the Dean and Associate Deans to ensure College and student success.
  • Create and facilitate harmonious relationships with students and faculty across all three College campuses.
  • Provide input into the strategic planning process to ensure student academic success.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the Curriculum Committee and Assessment Committee.
  • Teaching (20%) - Teaching as assigned  

    Research and Scholarship (10%)- Participate in and encourage research in teaching and learning for the continuous improvement of the curriculum.

     



    Qualifications

     

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education: A PharmD degree is required.

    Experience: At least seven (7) years of academic faculty experience; a full professor is preferred. Evidence of contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning and student success.
