The Office of the Dean of the Faculty at Princeton University seeks an Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean will have primary responsibility for monitoring the performance of academic units against the teaching budget of the University, and leading summer meetings with department chairs and academic managers to set the academic year teaching budget. They will review, prior to approval, academic appointments and re-appointments made by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty. The Assistant Dean will collaborate with the Associate Dean in managing the promotion process for ranks appointed by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty. This individual will also monitor the University’s assistants-in-instruction budget, working with administrative and academic offices to see that resources are employed effectively and efficiently.



The Assistant Dean will support the management of the faculty sabbatical leave process, developing and maintaining the online application and tracking tools.

They will provide office staff members with analyses of leave pattern data and assist with policy implementation.

The Assistant Dean may serve on University-wide committees and working groups on behalf of the Office of the Dean of the Faculty.



Bachelor's degree (with an advanced degree preferred) and at least five years of relevant experience in higher education.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in budget management and business operations, with strong quantitative skills, analytical acumen, and ability to compile data for planning and reporting purposes.

They will have a proven record of managing complex processes; communicating, collaborating, and facilitate problem-solving with diverse constituencies; improving work-flows; meeting deadlines; prioritizing competing demands; and leveraging technology.

They will also have excellent communication skills, written and oral; and an ability to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships.

Must work with absolute discretion and tact in handling highly confidential information.

Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook) are required.

Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, Labor Accounting, Information Warehouse, Course Information System, and Tableau is preferred.
The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully and comply with the University’s vaccine policy.
