Salary Range: $80,937/year or higher, commensurate with experience and/or education

JOB SUMMARY 

The Assistant Dean, College of Science and Technology serves as the strategic and operational champion to enhance student success by developing and implementing student success and advisement strategies to advance learning, engagement, retention, and completion within the College.

DUTIES

  • Leads undergraduate enrollment management strategy and initiatives for the College
  • Oversees involvement in transfer fairs, open houses, and other recruitment events for the College
  • Provides leadership in the coordination of college events related to freshman and transfer orientation
  • Plans and administers student success events
  • Connects students with alumni through professional development opportunities, networking, and career events
  • Conducts campus resource workshops for students
  • Provides professional development for students, such as HIP, research, and study abroad
  • Connects students with student groups in their college
  • Recommends and assists in implementing improved procedures and services to enhance student development, retention, and student success
  • Reviews and updates all undergraduate college degree plans in accordance with published catalog
  • Reviews and co-approves transfer guides from all transfer colleges and universities in consultation with Associate Dean and Department Chairs
  • Maintains an appropriate level of professional activity through membership and participation in relevant professional organizations
  • Trains advising staff on new programs with degree plans
  • Collects data on early alerts and at-risk warnings
  • Collects, analyzes, and summarizes enrollment data for all College degree programs with special emphasis on interdisciplinary program majors and cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary minors
  • Collects data and reports on student success metrics such as progression, graduation, and retention rates
  • Represents the college on committees and task forces as appointed by the administration and/or dean and represents the college at meetings and other events as assigned by the dean
  • Serves on UHD's Academic Dismissal Committee and Advising Council

MARGINAL DUTIES 

  • Coordinates undergraduate College scholarship awards
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • Regularly assigns work 

Supervision Given: 

  • Makes final decisions on evaluating employee performance, hiring new employees, and disciplinary actions
  • Makes final decision on scheduling employee work hours
  • Makes final decision on coaching and counseling; training; provides recommendations on handling employee grievances and complaints; and makes final decision on granting time off

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Primary Work Location: 

  • Works in an office environment for 6 to 8 hours

Physical Demands: 

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements
  • The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc
  • The work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks
