Job Summary
 

Responsible for assisting with all coaching and recruiting aspects of the mascot and spirit squad program. Responsible for choreographing and teaching cheer routines to the mascot and spirit squads. Assists with coordinating all aspects of preparation for athletics events/competition. Monitors academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met and assists in academic registration process. Mascots play a significant role in KSU Athletics marketing strategy, increasing brand awareness and brand recall, helping to develop lasting relationships and personifying the brand.


Responsibilities
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works with cheerleaders and mascots during practices and events
2. Assists with the supervision of weekly practices for both the cheerleaders and the mascot that develop skills and enhance physical conditioning while maximizing safety of all involved
3. Instructs cheerleaders and the mascot, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations equipment, and techniques of the sport
4. Observes cheerleaders and the mascot, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement
5. Acts as a team representative and promotes KSU Athletics and Cheerleading
6. Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms
7. In partnership with assigned cheerleader, the assigned coach is responsible for the care and maintenance of the Mascot costume and associated equipment that is provided by the cheerleading organization
8. Monitors the assigned cheerleading mascot when in costume, to ensure they are aware of the surroundings to help avoid personal injury and/or damage to the costume, assigns a cheerleader not in costume to help guide the performer away from potential dangers and hazards
9. Reads and maintains the manual and the mascot costume care guide which has the instructions to properly care for the costume and keep it in good condition
10. Participates in special activities to include various events held by the University (i.e., award nights, pep rallies, etc.)
11. Maintains eligibility for emergency contact information, equipment inventory, and other related records
12. Attends development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching/advising performance


Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license
AACCA certified or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
CPR/First Aid certified or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
Required Experience
Three (3) years coaching experience (middle/high school, club, all-star and/or collegiate level)


Preferred Qualifications
 

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Ability to communicate and adhere to Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and regulations and American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors Safety Certification
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
 

ABILITIES
Able to model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, mascot(s), officials, administration, and spectators
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Expertise in the technical aspects of cheer, including the ability to teach both female and male athletes.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
