Job Summary:

The Center for Dairy Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (CDR) is hiring an Assistant Coordinator for our Cheese Industry and Applications Group. The Client Based Researcher II will be working at the UW-Madison Center for Dairy Research including trials that occur in the cheese pilot plant and dairy processing areas. This position is like no other in the dairy industry. This exciting position will be working in a team environment with other cheesemakers and dairy processors where research, product development, troubleshooting, innovation, training, and working with clients from around the world allows for significant personal growth. This position will be learning about exciting new innovations in the dairy industry through internal and external training opportunities. This person will design and setup cheesemaking experiments/trials to meet research or industry objectives, including meeting with clients to prepare an initial scope of work, selecting appropriate analytical testing, assisting licensed cheesemakers in conducting the trial, reviewing results/data from these trials and preparing reports for clients. This person will present results at meetings and short courses and support graduate student research projects. In addition, duties could include plant visits for trials or troubleshooting, as well as research. The selected candidate will have excellent customer service skills, be detail oriented, and have the ability to multitask.

Responsibilities:
Designs methodology, conducts data collection and analysis, and prepares reports for moderately complex client-based research. May co-author publications, present research, and guide the efforts of other research staff.
  • 30% Directs the development of research methodologies and procedures according to client-based objectives and specifications
  • 5% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • 30% Collects and analyzes moderately complex research data for one or more research projects. Designs and conducts experiments and interviews. Documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 30% Prepares reports and materials and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 5% Reviews and edits research protocols under limited supervision

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred bachelor's degree in food science, microbiology, engineering, or related fields.


Qualifications:

Required:
-Previous experience in the dairy/food industry
-Knowledge of dairy chemistry, processing, and cheesemaking
-Experience with project management
-Experience and familiarity with Microsoft office applications like Excel, PowerPoint
Preferred:
-A Wisconsin cheesemakers license (or will need to obtain one within 1 year of starting at CDR)
-Familiarity with routine and specialized tests for dairy products


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

A criminal background check is required.
A 12 month evaluation period is required.
