The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 24 intercollegiate sports, comprised of 14 women’s and 10 men’s programs, that compete at the Division I level. The Scarlet Knights are members of the prestigious Big Ten Conference, the nation’s premier academic and athletic conference, after officially joining the league on July 1, 2014. Known as “The Birthplace of College Football, Rutgers hosted Princeton on Nov. 6, 1869 in the first intercollegiate football game, with RU earning a 6-4 victory.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Coach – Wrestling for Rutgers Athletics. Under the direct supervision of the Head Coach the position assists in the coordination of a Men’s Wrestling intercollegiate athletic program which provides an opportunity for student-athletes to train and compete on a competitive, Division I men’s wrestling program while attending school to earn a college degree.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Assists in establishing and maintaining a nationally competitive intercollegiate men’s wrestling team within the Big Ten Conference and NCAA.
• Recruits high level academically and athletically skilled male students to attend Rutgers to earn a degree and to compete in the men’s wrestling program.
• Assists in organizing and conducting practices and competitions at a high level of efficiency and success.
• Assists in developing, teaching and instructing the student-athletes in the proper rules of competition, conditioning. skills and techniques on the field and in life-skills and leadership qualities on and off the field.
• Assists in fundraising and public relations events that support the objectives of the program and allow for program enhancements.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Good organization skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes and the media.
• Computer literate.
• Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Youth, High school or collegiate wrestling coaching and competitiion experience.
• Knowledge of the Big Ten and NCAA regulations.

Equipment Utilized

• Ability to use a computer, email, editing equipment and recruiting database software.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Will be required to work nights and weekends.
