Position Summary

The university is seeking a qualified candidate that demonstrates exceptional coaching abilities in basketball for the Women’s basketball team. The successful candidate must also possess qualifications for a collateral assignment in the Admissions Office as a Multicultural Admissions Counselor.
This unique position will be deployed as an established champion for the basketball team and leading Athletics Department initiatives to promote a more diverse and inclusive environment for employees and student-athletes by aligning recruitment efforts in Admissions as well as promoting and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in UWL’s Athletics Department. The successful candidate will need to have demonstrated a successful career of working with student-athletes and employees of every background on enhancing their awareness and commitment to inclusion efforts.

Required Qualifications
● Bachelor’s Degree.
● Basketball coaching or playing experience at high school, club, or collegiate level.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills such as excellent written and public speaking.
● Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
● Ability to lift/transport materials up to 35lbs.
● Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
● Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
● Knowledge of NCAA Division III and WIAC rules.
● Collegiate coaching or playing experience.
● Collegiate recruiting experience.
● Strong organizational and event planning skills
● Ability to adapt and manage multiple competing priorities
● Ability to use and learn multiple computer technologies (such as Peoplesoft, ImageNow, TargetX CRM, Microsoft Office)
● Experience in marketing, admissions or a related area of higher education

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • Admissions Counselor: Typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. However, numerous evening and weekend hours will be required.
  • The ability to travel throughout the Midwest by automobile is also required.

Description of College / Department / Program / Division / Unit
The Division of Student Affairs’ role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL. We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service, and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes several departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student.
The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse is a member of the respected Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and pride ourselves on a successful Division III athletic program with broad-based student participation and a balanced student-athlete philosophy. Our mission is “Building Champions. In Sport. In School. In Life.”. We have twenty-one intercollegiate athletic teams, and have won 73 national titles – the second most in the history of NCAA Division III. On average, we place 13th in the Learfield Director’s Cup. Student-athletes have had a higher GPA than the general student body for 21of the last 22 years. Our program routinely participates in over 20 community service activities each year.
