Assists the head coach in running successful track & field programs which competes as a NCAA Division III program and as a member of the University Athletic Association (UAA).  This includes practice and competition coaching, recruiting student-athletes at a national level, design and implementation of competitive strategies and advising and mentoring our student-athletes. The assistant must understand and promote the mission, goals, values and educational ideals of Brandeis University, as well as the mission of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the student-athlete recruitment effort for the Track & Field program. This includes traveling to high school and club contests, evaluating prospective student-athletes, submitting materials from prospective student-athletes to the Office of Admissions for early credential reviews, assisting with on-campus visits by prospects and managing the team's social media accounts.  Assists with recruiting a diverse incoming class of Track & Field student-athletes that contribute to the continuing success of the team and to the University community at large.  40%

  • Assists with the planning of all in-season practice sessions and developing an off-season training schedule and program. Assists with all competition coaching at home and on the road. 30%

  • Assist the head coach with managing all administrative details associated with the program including home meet management, travel arrangements, apparel/equipment purchases, and athletic training services. 15%

  • Participate in department service (i.e. student-athlete development leadership, DEI programming, etc.). Maintain applicable required certifications and serve on department committees. 10%

  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 5%

Education & Work Experience:

  • B.A./B.S. required. M.A./M.S. preferred.

  • 1-3 years with college coaching preferred.

Additional Information:

  • Driverâ™s license required. Must be qualified to be insured by the university.

  • CPR/AED certification required.  

  • Requires ability to drive 12-passenger vans. 

  • Operates in gymnasium and fields and may operate in varied weather given training needs.

  • General open office and campus environment.

  • Position involves sitting, movement and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds in coaching and training situations.

  • Frequent travel and early morning/evening/weekend work is required.
