Overview
The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 24 intercollegiate sports, comprised of 14 women’s and 10 men’s programs, that compete at the Division I level. The Scarlet Knights are members of the prestigious Big Ten Conference, the nation’s premier academic and athletic conference, after officially joining the league on July 1, 2014. Known as “The Birthplace of College Football, Rutgers hosted Princeton on Nov. 6, 1869 in the first intercollegiate football game, with RU earning a 6-4 victory.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Coach – Strength & Conditioning for Athletics. The position assists in the instructing and organizing of all aspects of the Strength & Conditioning Program including training, technical supervision, evaluation and preparation of practices and competition. This position  works in conjunction with the Head Coaches of designated sports in developing and administering strength and conditioning programs unique to individual sports and athletes to help develop the student-athlete to their full potential. The position also works primarily with the Field Hockey & Women’s Rowing team. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Develops a periodization plan for assigned team throughout the year. 
  • Responsible for holding the standards for exercise execution in regards to technique. 
  • Evaluation of how well assigned teams perform the exercises prescribed.
  • Provides specific feedback to the student athletes of their performance in relation to the departments standards. 
  • Evaluates employees ability to correct improper technique of assigned SAs. 
  • Evaluation of employee’s adjustments to year plan in response to SAs response to prescribed plan. Feedback from assigned sport coaches. 
  • Creates a positive culture of physical and mental well-being for the teams they work with and all Rutgers student-athletes.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • A minimum of 2 years of strength coaching experience at the college level, with strength and conditioning instruction experience
Certifications/Licenses
  • Membership in and certification by an accredited professional organization (National Strength and Conditioning Association or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association) and first aid/CPR/AED certified required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer literate. 
  • Knowledge in Microsoft office.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Field Hockey or Rowing. 
  • Graduate Degree in exercise science related field. 
  • 1 year strength coaching experience with Field Hockey or Rowing at the Division 1 level. 
  • Experience working with athlete monitor systems, data analytics, and sport technology.
  • Knowledge of  Polar HR monitors, Cardio Coach VO2 cart, Sparta Science force plate technologies, Elite form. 
Equipment Utilized
  • Knowledge of strength training equipment.
  • All weight room equipment, which would include free weights, machines and cardio vascular equipment.
