The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 24 intercollegiatesports, comprised of 14 women’s and 10 men’s programs, that compete atthe Division I level. The Scarlet Knights are members of the prestigious BigTen Conference, the nation’s premier academic and athletic conference, afterofficially joining the league on July 1, 2014. Known as “The Birthplace ofCollege Football, Rutgers hosted Princeton on Nov. 6, 1869 in the firstintercollegiate football game, with RU earning a 6-4 victory.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Assistant Coach- Softball for Rutgers Athletics. The position is under the direct supervision of the Head Coach and assists in the coordination of an intercollegiate athletic program. This positions recruits high level academically and athletically skilled students to attend Rutgers and participate on the Women’s Softball Team.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Assists in developing, teaching and instructing the student-athletes in the proper rules of play, conditioning, skills and techniques on the softball field, in life-skills and leadership qualities off the field.
• Assists in establishing and maintaining a nationally competitive intercollegiate women’s softball team in the Big Ten and the NCAA.
• Point person in organizing and communicating practice times and locations to all involved. Additionally, responsible for coordinating all involved with practices. Working with operations, trainers, coaching staff to organize practice times and locations both at home and on the road.
• Point person for ordering, distributing and collecting equipment. Working with coaching staff to recognize equipment needs and working with equipment staff to maintain and effectively supply equipment in a timely and orderly manner.
• Responsible for completing and maintaining certain compliance logs including the CARA logs and various year end logs.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of NCAA regulations relative to proper rules of play in the sport of women’s softball.
• Good organization skills.
• Ability to communicate with student-athletes and the media.
• Computer literate.
• Ability to learn JumpForward compliance program.
• Understanding of technical knowledge of the sport of Softball with the ability to help develop the student-athletes to their full potential.
• Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefers four (4) years of collegiate softball coaching and playing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Big Ten Conference and NCAA regulations preferred.

Equipment Utilized

• Must be able to use a computer, email, editing equipment and recruiting database software.
• Must be willing to learn the JumpForward compliance software.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Must have the ability to work nights and weekends.
