Job Description:

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Athletics Assistant Coach, Men’s and Women’s Water Polo position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).

This position assists the Head Water Polo Coach in all phases of the varsity Water Polo program. This includes coaching and teaching, player development, recruiting, and administrative duties such as coordinating training and travel schedules, video analysis and instruction, and completing compliance information. The incumbent also maintains positive relations with alumnae and friends groups. This position supports all efforts to continue to attract the nation's top men's and women's water polo players to our Division I non-scholarship program.

Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Under the leadership of the Head Coach, plan long- and short-term team objectives with the goal of enhancing individual & team development, growth & performance.
  • Provide instruction and coaching for practices, individual sessions, and games.
  • Prepare and plan practices.
  • Run training, teach individuals and groups of players specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice in and out of the pool.
  • Analyze video and provide teaching to student-athletes using video.
  • Evaluate student-athletes to identify strengths and areas of improvement.
  • Assist with designing & implementing instructional opportunities to improve technical and strategic execution.

Entry into the candidate pool requires the following:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree, required.
  • 1-3 years coaching experience with a competitive club, high school or collegiate program; Prior collegiate coaching experience preferred (and/or a combination of coaching & competitive playing experience)
  • Competitive collegiate playing experience, preferred.

  • Excellent sport specific technical, tactical and strategic knowledge.

  • Basic proficiency in excel, word, internet & email capabilities.
  • Social media experience, helpful.
  • Prior experience with video & software, helpful.
  • Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport and ability to coach & motivate.
  • The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background and DMV check satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.

Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test, maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division), and attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs.
