USC Athletics is looking to hire an Assistant Coach, Men's Water Polo to join our staff and student community of 600+ individuals. The position reports to the Head Men's Water Polo Coach and will assist in all aspects of the Men's Water Polo program from coaching to daily operations. The position requires a strict understanding and adherence to all NCAA and Pac-12 rules and regulations. The position also requires travel, working directly with student-athletes and the athletic department at USC, and advanced coaching ability.

Responsibilities


I. Coaching
Assist in all activities with the team including coaching, individuals, team practice, matches, fall tournaments, and team events and meetings

  • Assist in planning practices and individual player progressions
  • Continue to develop and enhance technical and tactical coaching expertise
  • Oversee video analysis

II. Recruiting

  • Travel to tournaments and events as assigned by Head Coach throughout the year
  • Maintain and use database for tracking communication with recruits
  • Oversee regular communication with potential student-athletes
  • Establish strong relationships with coaches around the world to help identify and recruit top student-athletes
  • Assist with official and unofficial visits

III. Administrative

  • Assist with all aspects of operating a Division I athletic program
  • Oversee all equipment orders for team
  • Monitor and adhere to all guidelines in regards to budget and spending
  • Assist in running team events including home tournaments and all team and individual travel for away events.
  • Participate in athletic department activities as needed
  • Ensure the rules and regulations of the NCAA are followed at all times
  • Represent Men's Water Polo at athletic department, donor/alumni and community events as directed by Head Coach


IV. Supervision

  • Oversee and train our student workers (stringers) and managers
  • Oversee monitoring of social media accounts
  • Attend a limited amount of team fitness sessions
  • Oversee monitoring student-athlete academic performance

V. Other

  • Promotes an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.


Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Diligent work ethic, integrity, and reliability
  • Experience playing at the college level, preferred Division I
  • Strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Experience recruiting athletes to a strong academic and athletic program
  • Excellent administrative and organization skills, attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to support student-athletes in their quest to achieve excellence on the court and in the classroom
  • Capacity to establish good rapport with student-athletes, faculty, staff, administrators and the community
  • Knowledge of and experience working in higher education preferred. Understanding of the unique culture and needs of college athletes.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 3 years Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience Minimum Field of Expertise: Three years of college coaching experience. Complete understanding of Pac-12 and NCAA rules and regulations. Excellent organizational and strategic planning skills. Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and Title IX compliance. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to meet the extended hours and travel requirements of the position. Skilled at executing administrative tasks and maintaining interpersonal relationships with colleagues. Maintains current CPR/AED Certification. Preferred Education: Master’s degree Preferred Experience: 5 years Preferred Field of Expertise: Five years of coaching experience at the Division I level. Demonstrable college recruiting experience.
