Job Summary

The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator (ACRC) will support research on the Changing Health Through Food Support for Diabetes Study (CHEFS-DM) and the Nutrition-Supported Diabetes Education Program (NU-DSMP) Study. CHEFS-DM and NU-DSMP are studies funded by the National Institutes of Health to test the impact of medically tailored food support and nutrition education interventions among low-income and/or food insecure people living with type 2 diabetes in the San Francisco Bay Area. UCSF is partnering with the community-based nutrition agency Project Open Hand (POH) to provide the interventions under study. POH has been providing food support to individuals with illnesses who are unable to meet their nutrition needs for 35 years and is a leader in Food is Medicine research and policy initiatives. Participants are being recruited primarily from community clinics in San Francisco and Alameda Counties. The ACRC will work under the direct supervision of the Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) and the two Principal Investigators (PIs) to assist in executing and coordinating research protocols under the guidelines of UCSF and regulating agency policies. The ACRC will conduct study activities in both English and Spanish.

The ACRC’s duties may include, but will not be limited to, supporting the coordination of tasks for the CHEFS-DM study; assisting in coordinating efforts for study recruitment, enrollment, and retention of study participants; assist in coordination of study activities between UCSF, POH, and community clinic partners and in other community settings as needed; attend team meetings; assist in keeping participants on schedule with study visits; enter data into study REDCap databases, maintaining data quality; help design study documents such as flow sheets, data forms and source documents; assist with preparation of reports and tables; assist in helping assure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies; assist in documenting adverse events and reporting adverse events to the appropriate parties; and perform other duties as assigned. The ACRC will work in close collaboration with other CHEFS-DM research staff and study investigators, as well as with community partners, necessitating excellent communication skills, organization skills, and the ability to balance collaboration with proactivity and independence.


Department Description

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research, and education. With its home-base located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), the Division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care for over a decade. The Division’s work is featured frequently in the media, and it is often visited by numerous international, national, state, and local dignitaries and delegations. The Division consists of approximately 36 faculty members and 170 academic and staff employees. It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at ZSFG, with a total expenditure budget of approximately $45 million dollars.


Required Qualifications

  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Windows.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment; project management and coordination skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines on concurrent projects.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with patients or study subjects
  • Prior research experience – qualitative and/or quantitative methods
  • Experience using REDCap or online data collection tool
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail
