Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership is searching for an Assistant Clinical Professor of Mathematics Education who will also serve as the Secondary Math Professional Development School (PDS) Coordinator. Apart from teaching, scholarship, and service expectations, the faculty member will work collaboratively with other faculty in the department to coordinate the day-to-day activities of two secondary mathematics certification pathways, one at the undergraduate level and one at the graduate level, both on campus and in local partner schools. These activities typically include teaching math courses for teachers, coordinating internship placements, working with mentors and supervisors to monitor students’ progress, and facilitating weekly seminars to support students. The faculty member will also assist in recruitment and program improvement initiatives, complete activities related to accreditation as requested by the College of Education, communicate regularly with students about program requirements and opportunities, collaborate with program partners, and perform other related duties. This is a professional track, one-year, renewable, 9-month position with some summer responsibilities which will be compensated separately based on the departmental scale. Preference to start Spring 2024.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
PhD or EdD in mathematics education or a closely related field with coursework and experience in mathematics.
Experience:
  • K-12 classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience working with pre-service and/or in-service teachers (e.g., teaching, research initiatives, professional development).
  • Experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students, and contributing to an inclusive climate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Evidence of ability to work with multiple stakeholders connected to the teacher certification process (e.g., experience working collaboratively with local schools, evidence of ability to manage program details effectively).
  • Evidence of commitment to inclusive pedagogies, anti-racist pedagogies, social justice, and/or critical consciousness.

  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentorship, including working with students and groups from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Experience with supporting K-12 schools as they strive to meet the learning needs of multilingual learners and/or other historically marginalized students.
  • Secondary Math classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience supervising teacher candidates.
  • Experience supporting pre-service and/or in-service teachers in completing program and certification requirements (e.g., teacher portfolios, edTPA, etc.).
