Job Description
Serve as a member of the TFS Incident Response Program leadership. Provide supervision and oversight to Regional Fire Coordinators, Task Forces and other emergency response employees in assigned geographic area. Assist in the professional development of coordinators and staff. Coordinate with all agency program leaders to ensure all agency/department resources assist in the consistent delivery of all agency programs with each branch/region and are coordinated effectively and efficiently. Promote interaction with fire departments, local government, communities, other agencies and cooperators on fire related issues. Promote local capacity building programs and other initiatives that increase response capabilities at the local, regional and statewide level.
Responsibilities:
-Provide supervision and direction to the branch fire staff to include Regional Fire Coordinators, Wildland Urban Interface Specialists, Task Force coordinators as well as their Resource Specialists and support staff. Assist in the professional development of branch staff. Promote and coordinate the interaction with fire departments, communities, other agencies and cooperators on fire and natural resource related issues to promote local capacity building and increase capabilities on local and statewide level.
-Coordinate response to wildland fire incidents and other incidents and events within the branch. Serve on the TFS Incident Management teams and as an emergency responder (including wildland fire). Emergency response may require: extended travel days 14+ away from home unit, working long hours with minimal rest and in primitive conditions; exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as smoke, wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes; walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching and kneeling; lifting and carrying heavy objects; driving motor vehicles for long distances; operating heavy equipment with related exposure to equipment vibration and noise; operating computers with monitors for extended periods of time. Emergency response may result in exposure to emotionally stressful situations for extended periods of time. Persons serving in fire operations must meet a physical fitness standard of Moderate WCT.
-Be familiar with issues at the state and branch level that impact natural resources and assist with delivery of natural resource management programs through staff and/or direct involvement.
-Manage and account for assigned TFS credit cards; TFS vehicle log books; Daily Activity Time Reports; and any assigned TFS equipment in accordance with applicable laws, rules, procedures and guidelines.
-Comply with all loss prevention, environmental health and safety standards as established by applicable laws and rules.
-Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Range Science, Natural Resource Management, Fire Management, Fire Administration, Emergency Management or closely related field.
Preferred Education: Masters degree in Forestry, Range Science, Natural Resource Management, Fire Management, Fire Administration, Emergency Management or closely related field.
Required Experience: Experience operating under the National Interagency Incident Management System. Demonstrated knowledge of personnel management, employee supervision, fiscal administration. Thorough, demonstrable knowledge of wildland firefighting, all-hazard emergency response with the Texas Fire Service. Seven (7) years active experience with a recognized natural resource wildland agency, fire department or other wildland response organization.
Preferred Experience: Experience on Incident Management teams. Experience with developing and implementing fuels, prevention and resource management programs. Advanced leadership experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required Knowledge: Computers and technology used in Texas A&M Forest Service.
Required Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills working with and supervising a wide variety of people. Must have excellent oral and written skills.
Required Abilities: Develop and maintain relationships with various cooperators, stakeholders and the general public. Work within the NIMS/ICS environment at wildfires and at all-hazard incidents. Travel and attend required training programs, meetings and other in-and-out of branch functions. Multi-task or work cooperatively with others.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Required: Have or obtain a valid Texas Drivers License CDL.
Preferred: Hold current NWCG credentials as DIVS or other C&G position. Hold advanced leadership certifications through TCFP/or SFFMA
