Job Description

The Flight Training Department at our Daytona Beach Campus is currently accepting applications for the position of Senior Assistant Chief Flight Instructor.  The principle function is to accomplish safe, efficient and customer-satisfying flight training that complies with University and FAA policies and procedures.  Provide supervision to the Flight Training Managers, Flight Supervisors, Flight & Ground Instructor Pilots, Flight Dispatch, and Scheduling. Responsible to the Chief Flight Instructor in the management of flight training to include safety of training, quality of training, student service and student progress.

Accomplish safe, efficient and customer satisfying flight training that complies with University and FAA policies and procedures:

  • Responsible for amending FAA approved documents as required to maintain compliance with CFR 14 Part 141 and Part 142.
  • Responsible for maintaining all training documents to ensure FAA and manufacture compliance, and to ensure safety.
  • Responsible for effectively communicating all procedural and policy changes to the Instructor Pilot core.
  • Ensure the accuracy of course completion paperwork to be submitted to the FAA.

Assist the Chief Flight Instructor in providing supervision to the Flight Training Managers, Flight & Ground Instructor Pilots, Flight Dispatch, and Scheduling in order to deliver exceptional flight training

  • Oversee the initial selection, training and testing of all new hire, upgrade, and transition training for Instructor Pilots.  
  • Ensure all assigned personnel conduct training in a professional, safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure that student progress in flight courses meets flight department minimum standards.
  • Communicate weekly training goals and account for the progress toward these goals on a weekly basis.
  • Provide management of assets and job functions of all assigned personnel.
  • Promote the Embry‑Riddle safety program.
  • Work with all local airports to ensure ERAU is able to conduct safe and efficient flight training activities.
  • Promote Embry‑Riddle student care and customer satisfaction.
  • Accomplish special projects as assigned.

Responsible to the Chief Flight Instructor in the management of flight training to include safety of training, quality of training, student service and student progress:

  • Communicate with parents as necessary to discuss student training concerns.
  • Conduct training of assigned students.
  • Administer stage checks and end of course checks as assigned.
  • Work with all local airports to ensure ERAU is able to conduct safe and efficient flight training activities.
  • Represent Embry-Riddle at community meetings and industry conferences.
  • Work with Community Outreach Programs and internal ERAU departments to coordinate special events highlighting the Flight Training Department and flight training programs.
  • Maintain currency to operational and industry standards.
  • Ensure operational consistency during co-worker leaves of absence, short or long term.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities include:

Flight Training Managers, Flight Supervisors, Flight & Ground Instructor Pilots, Flight Dispatch, and Scheduling.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science or a closely related field.  Master’s degree preferred.

FAA Certificated Flight Instructor/Instrument CFI, CFII, MEI, Airplane Single and Multiengine; Instrument Airplane.  Three years cumulative experience as a Certificated Flight Instructor and 1200 hours Dual Flight Instruction Given.

Analytical skills and expertise using Microsoft to include; Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook/email.  Three to five years recent aviation and aviation related management experience preferred.  Fulfill all requirements of the FAR Part 141.36 as it pertains to the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor.  Demonstrated supervisory ability.  Must be a multi-tasker with the ability to work in an extremely busy work environment.
