Job Summary:

Oversees daily food service operations, performs food preparation and packaging in the bakery, catering and Grab and Go operations of the Wisconsin Union. Ensures food service goals and customer satisfaction are achieved.

Responsibilities: Oversees daily food service operations and performs food preparation activities in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals.
  • 20% Assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
  • 10% Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
  • 30% Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
  • 10% Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • 10% Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • 20% Ensures Appropriate labelling and packaging of items for safe and effective transport

We are mostly interested in your learned and work experience, however an Associates' Degree, Culinary Degree or other formal training will complement your base of knowledge.

Qualifications:

Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a busy food production environment.

License/Certification:

Required
ServSafe Certification
Need to be able to obtain within three months of hire
Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work Schedule:

Sunday - Thursday (6am - 2:30 pm)

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates two buildings on the UW-Madison campus. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by twenty-two food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $45 million dollars.
The Wisconsin Union is part of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by the Vice chancellor for student affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy.
