The Assistant Bookstore Manager, under direction, assists in sales forecasting, planning, store procedures, and developing programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in daily bookstore operations. Supervises textbook department.

  • Coordinates and supervises the ordering process for textbooks and related academic materials. Initiates and approves purchase orders for course materials.

  • Coordinates and supervises the purchase of used textbooks through the use of wholesale purchases and in-store buyback of used textbooks.

  • Coordinates the return of textbooks to vendors for overstock, damaged, or defective books.

  • Monitors receivables.

  • Trains and evaluates staff to work on sales floor in respective departments.

  • Maintains standards of merchandise presentation and customer service.

  • Assists in establishing new policies and procedures to address store operations.

  • Assist in maintaining a bookstore e-commerce site

  • Maintain a presence on the sales floor to greet customers, answer questions and assist when necessary.

  • Manage customer or employee issues in a timely and respectful manner.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. Acts as a representative of Campus Operations and as a valued member of TSU as part of the A&M system and performs other duties as assigned, including serving satellite campuses.

Minimum Requirements

Education – Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience – Four years of related experience.

1-year supervisory experience preferred

Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong interpersonal, communication & problem-solving skills.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Licensing / Professional Certification – None.

Physical Requirements –While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The position requires mobility and physical exertion; duties involve moving materials weighing 10-20 pounds frequently, 25-35 pounds occasionally. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and similar machines.
