Title: Assistant Athletics Trainer

Occupational Summary

This position will be under the supervision of the Executive Director of Duke Athletic Medicine and is a 12-month position. The Assistant Athletics Trainer will manage the care of the student-athletes of Duke University participating in NCAA Division I sports and report to the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine. Main sport focus will be with women’s soccer and cheer. Additional sport/duties will be determined by the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine.

Essential Functions

· Prevention and care of athletic injury and illnesses

· Evaluation of athletic injuries

· Communication of information between the athletic medicine team, coaches, student-athletes and parents

· Education and counseling to student-athletes about their injury/illness

· Maintenance of appropriate documentation and record-keeping.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s and Master’s degree athletic training, athletic medicine, kinesiology or related field are required.

· Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).

· Fulfill requirements to apply for State Licensure with the NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.

· A minimum of three years of athletic training experience with NCAA student-athletes.

o A minimum of 2 years of athletic training experience with a collegiate or professional soccer experience preferred.

· Familiarity with NCAA governing rules.

· An understanding of sports science technology, return to play application.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires knowledge of the general principles of preventive physical care for athletes, first aid treatment and referral, and post injury rehabilitation normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine or other related Athletic Trainer program. National Athletic Trainers Association certification is required.


Experience

Work requires one year experience participating in various OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE administrative, educational or medical support services such as coordinating arrangements for appointments and activities, participating in physical training tasks and instructions, providing first aid treatmentor other related functions in order to acquire skills necessary to participate in a comprehensive sports medical program for intercollegiate athletes.
