Job Summary:

The Javelina Athletics Department seeks an ambitious, dynamic and confident individual to serve as its Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations. The successful candidate will exemplify a passion for collegiate athletics and athletic sponsorshi­­ps, fundraising, alumni and former athlete engagement. Reporting to the Senior Director of Gift Planning ­­­with a dotted line to the Executive Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation (A.D.), the Assistant AD for External Relations will play an integral role in the strategic planning and implementation of all revenue generation strategies that will sustain and grow the Javelina Athletics program.

This position will have a direct reporting line to the Senior Director, Planned Giving in the office of Institutional Advancement and a dotted line to the Athletic Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Athletics Corporate Sponsorship

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit corporate sponsorships, working in coordination with the Office of Institutional Advancement.

  • Execute and coordinate sponsorship fulfillment on campus for athletics

  • Maintain and produce the printed and electronic resources for athletic corporate sponsorships.

External Relations

  • When directed, represent the A.D. at campus or external events

  • Serve as the face of Javelina Athletics should the A.D. be away when guests or former athletes visit the campus.

  • Work with the Javelina Athletics Director Advisory Council (JADAC).

Fundraising

  • Work with the Director of Athletics, Head Coaches, and Senior Director of Gift Planning to establish program and department priorities, goals, and desired outcomes on all revenue generating opportunities.

  • Maintain accurate and timely record regarding activities related to donor interaction.

  • Maintain a good working relationship with the Office of Institutional Advancement.

Athletics Outside Group Rentals

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit new outside group rentals for athletic facilities.

  • Collaborate with coaches on identifying and cultivating leads on new rental opportunities.

Athletics Events

  • Coordinate with the Office Institutional Advancement all alumni events and engagement activities for athletic programs, such as Championship Year Reunions, Annual Javelina Hall of Fame, alumni events at away competitions.

  • Work with former Javelina athletes for engagement opportunities with current student athletes, coaches and university administration

  • Travel as appropriate and directed by the A.D. 

Working with the Institutional Advancement, use Blackbaud database system to assist with data collection and maintenance for athletic alumni and donors.

Minimum Requirements

Education – Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience – Four years of related experience.

Knowledge of – General knowledge of NCAA rules. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.

Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Minimum two years sponsorship fundraising experience in University or athletics setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information

  • Ability to travel extensively including evenings and weekends
