Overview
The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 24 intercollegiate sports, comprised of 14 women’s and 10 men’s programs, that compete at the Division I level. The Scarlet Knights are members of the prestigious Big Ten Conference, the nation’s premier academic and athletic conference, after officially joining the league on July 1, 2014. Known as “The Birthplace of College Football, Rutgers hosted Princeton on Nov. 6, 1869 in the first intercollegiate football game, with RU earning a 6-4 victory.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director – Communications for Rutgers Athletics. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Oversees the production of press releases, game notes, media guides, game programs and other written materials, including content on ScarletKnights.com.
  • Coordinates all aspects of media coverage for the men’s basketball program and other sport(s) as assigned by Senior Assoc. AD, Communications. 
  • Devises communication strategies to secure placements in local and national media outlets; proactively pitches media opportunities.
  • Utilizes current and emerging media channels to drive brand awareness, with a focus on driving social media strategy and content production.
  • Develops, maintains and enhances effective relationships with media and other external constituents to promote Rutgers Athletics. 
  • Manages games/events in relation to media, public relations, social media and other related external activities.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to direct reports, managing schedules and workflow.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Sports Management or related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in sports information/media relations office or equivalent of professional level experience. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive computer experience
  • Strong knowledge of sports statistics and Statcrew, and Genius software
  • Experience with desktop publishing software (Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative suites). 
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in sports information/media relations office or equivalent of professional level experience. 
Equipment Utilized
  • Sports statistics and Statcrew, and Genius software
  • Desktop publishing software (Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative suites) 
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This position may work weekends and night hours (based on game times for various sports).
