Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Two years of experience related to intercollegiate athletics sports media relations or comparable work in a sports-related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Sports Administration and five years’ experience in collegiate athletics
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and video production
  • Former student – athlete
  • Thorough knowledge of the campus including its achievements, mission, values, goals, objectives and infrastructure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong communication and political acumen skills
  • Thorough, strong project management skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and public relations skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community and wide range of constituencies, including the corporate community and institutional marketing personnel
  • Fluency with both Mac and PC operating systems
  • Understand the nuances of game day presentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic sports news media needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coaches, administrators, faculty, and students

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $19.18 - $24.47 per hour.

Department Summary

WashU has a rich tradition of athletic achievement that began over 100 years ago and competes at the Division III level of the NCAA.  WashU’s varsity sports portfolio contains 19 programs.  Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, and track and field.  Women’s sports consist of basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.  WashU’s primary conference affiliation is the University Athletic Association Conference (UAA) while football competes in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).  With an alumni base spread throughout the country, the reach of WashU’s athletic programs continues to grow.  Over the past year, WashU’s live-streaming viewership has increased by nearly 30%.

Washington University’s Athletic Complex has been fortunate to host numerous national championships, renown speakers, musical groups, and political events.  Additionally, Francis Field, WashU’s signature outdoor facility, has a storied history as it served as the primary facility for the first Olympic Games in the Western Hemisphere.  Another one of WashU’s premier athletic facilities is the Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center, which opened its doors in October 2016.  The state-of-the-art recreation center has become a highly sought-out destination with over 2,000 daily visitors and 83% of undergraduate students utilizing the space.
