JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time, in-residence, non-tenure track Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor or Professor of Practice position (rank determined based on background and qualifications under AC21 ) in Energy Business and Finance (EBF) for the 2024-25 academic year. This is a 12-month appointment funded for three years, with the possibility of renewal. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024.

Energy Business and Finance is a unique major at Penn State that prepares students for careers across the energy value chain and in all energy sectors. Our curriculum focuses on developing skills in economic and financial analysis relevant to a rapidly changing energy sector, and our graduates are in high demand from many different energy firms in electric power, oil and gas, renewables, and risk management. EBF places a high value on real-world energy industry knowledge in addition to fundamentals in economics, finance, and energy technology.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to teach up to six undergraduate courses per year, depending on needs and other service work in the Department. Topics of these courses may include introduction to energy economics, introduction to electricity markets, energy finance, risk management in energy industries, corporate finance for the energy industries, energy and the environment, and energy conservation for environmental protection. Courses are offered through both the resident instruction and the World Campus delivery systems. Additional responsibilities may include moving in-person courses online, updating course materials or developing new course materials, assisting with curriculum design and assessment, and academic advising.

Requirements and Qualifications

A Ph.D. degree in applied or general economics, natural resource economics, public policy, energy or environmental engineering, or related majors, by appointment start date with teaching experience in undergraduate courses. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge and background in energy and environmental economics through research, teaching, or industrial experiences. Industry experience and evidence of commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate level are a plus.
